Value your work and value yourself [Eng-Esp]

Feliz tarde, amigos de Hive. Los saludo con mucho cariño, deseando de corazón que se encuentren bien. Hoy, quiero compartir con ustedes un tema que me afecta mucho. Espero que puedan sacarle provecho.

Amigos, yo soy una persona que valora el trabajo de los demás y también valoro el propio; pero cuando se trata de trabajos independientes, me refiero a trabajo que se realizan para otros; como la remodelación de una casa, mantenimiento, albañilería, lavar y planchar ropa para otros; aquí es cuando más debemos valorar nuestro trabajo. En este caso, quién debe fijar el precio del trabajo, obviamente tiene que ser la persona que va a realizar el trabajo.

Para nadie es un secreto que en Venezuela las cosas son difíciles en cuanto la economía, esto se ha prestado para que muchos empleadores sean los que fijen el precio a sus empleados, realmente esta es una situación que me da indignación e impotencia.

Friends, I am a person who values the work of others and I also value my own; but when it comes to independent work, I mean work that is done for others; such as remodeling a house, maintenance, masonry, washing and ironing clothes for others; this is when we should value our work the most. In this case, who should set the price of the work, obviously has to be the person who is going to do the work.

It is no secret that in Venezuela things are difficult in terms of the economy, this has lent itself to many employers being the ones to set the price for their employees, this is really a situation that gives me indignation and impotence.

He sido testigo ocular de como muchas personas se aprovechan de la necesidad de otros, para fijarle un precio que está muy por debajo de lo que realmente debería ser. Yo tengo una amiga que limpia, plancha y cocina en casa de varias personas, ese es su trabajo. Pero sus empleadores le pagan con lo que ellos consideran que vale ese trabajo y vaya que lo que ellos consideran, es un sueldo completamente miserable.

Muchas veces he conversado con ella sobre esto, pero ella menciona que para no tener nada, es mejor al menos obtener algo de dinero. Aunque realmente difiero de ella con respecto a esto, porque en este caso se están aprovechando de ella, respeto su punto de vista. Aún así, siempre le digo que deje a esos empleadores. Le he aconsejado que busque otras alternativas; vendiendo café, helados y caramelos en un sitio concurrido le iría mejor. En una ocasión yo vendí helados y me fue bien.

Sin embargo, ella no me hace caso. Lamentablemente, a largo plazo su cuerpo le va a pasar factura y ni siquiera tendrá para hacerse una placa, porque no le alcanzará con lo que estas personas le pagan. La economía informal es una alternativa de trabajo. Claro, hay que salir a la calle, pero seremos nuestros propios jefes.

I have been an eyewitness of how many people take advantage of the need of others, to set a price that is far below what it really should be. I have a friend who cleans, irons and cooks in several people's homes, that is her job. But her employers pay her what they consider that job to be worth, and boy, what they consider to be a completely miserable salary.

Many times I have talked to her about this, but she mentions that in order to have nothing, it is better to at least get some money. Although I really differ with her on this, because in this case she is being taken advantage of, I respect her point of view. Still, I always tell her to leave those employers. I have advised her to look for other alternatives; selling coffee, ice cream and candy in a busy place would be better for her. I once sold ice cream and did well.

However, she does not listen to me. Unfortunately, in the long run her body will take its toll and she won't even have enough to get a badge, because she won't be able to make ends meet with what these people pay her. The informal economy is an alternative to work. Sure, we have to go out on the streets, but we will be our own bosses.

Trabajarle a otros amigos, es difícil, yo lo he hecho y también fui víctima, permití por un tiempo que otros le colocaran precio a mi trabajo, pero ya basta de eso. Si usted es un albañil como en el caso de mi papá, trabaja en una casa limpiando u ofrece cualquier otro tipo de servicio; no subestime su trabajo, no permita que venga otro y diga cuánto vale. Póngale precio a su trabajo; y si no aceptan el precio, pues que se busquen a otro, usted tenga la confianza de que el creador del universo no lo abandonará. De seguro, le saldrá algo mejor. Valore su trabajo y valorese a si mismo.

Working for other friends is difficult, I have done it and I was also a victim, I allowed others to put a price on my work for a while, but enough of that. If you are a bricklayer as in the case of my dad, work in a house cleaning or offer any other type of service; do not underestimate your work, do not allow someone else to come and say how much it is worth. Put a price on your work; and if they do not accept the price, then let them look for someone else, you have the confidence that the creator of the universe will not abandon you. For sure, something better will come out of it. Value your work and value yourself.
