How many Frogs will you have to Kiss?

Christmas is a time when we pause. We stop and reflect. We look forward to another year and hope for blessings.

I love my home where I live now, although, there will always be a piece of memory that one of my family misses: one of the many places we have called home in the last 20 years. Our lives have been so big, so delightfully bursting with love and laughter and people that have changed us forever, but sometimes, I feel like I have failed on so many levels to keep up, especially of late, and nurture these wonderful pieces of humanity. It is at this time of year, Christmas, where I take the time to go through the address book to send a card, even if I have talked to them a dozen times this year, just to let them know that I am thinking of them. Every year, I have the same thought running through my head; is this enough to keep a connection solid?

Christmas time seems to purposely add just a little bit more good cheer and joy into our society than what is normal, even if it is short-lived. I know I always wish for that. It is a common sentiment this time of year. It's interesting to note that Christmas, like many other holidays, is special for its uniqueness. It would truly be wonderful if the spirit of Christmas was with us, all year round. But that would eventually be like the spirit of 10am on a random Tuesday. Wonderment is sometimes defined in terms of its rarely. Savor it now because it will soon be a new season with new feelings and different sentiments.

By the way, how many frogs did you have to kiss to find Prince Charming?

I like all the different sentiments that go with all the seasons and the fact that they rotate through to keep things interesting. But, honestly, can we be kind and thoughtful all year long? That should belong to every season.

Santa and tree.JPG

It's always good for us to pause
And think awhile of Santa Claus--
That jolly symbol we revere
When we approach the changing year.
Behind his beard so long and white,
In which our children take delight,
There beats a heart from color free
Which bids all children "come to me."
-The Spirit of Santa Claus

I look forward to my tree and each and every ornament placed as it reminds me of a time in my life or the person that gave it to me. What a great way to go back in time year after year. Below is an ornament I bought in Lublin, Poland, located right by the eastern borders of Ukraine and Belarus, It was close to 25 years ago and my first time visiting that part of Poland. The had phone books at the time, located at Poczta Polska (Post Office)Their monopolizing Ma Bell was called Telekomunikacja Polska and to this day owns most of the still available phone booths. Long story, short, we went there on a geneology hunt and found- you guessed it!- Relatives! We still see and write to each other and it was quite and exciting find. So, every time I look at this ornament, I think of them. It even has a flower on it. #alwaysaflower

It’s just not Christmastime without the glitter. Once you release the urge to use sparkle, it has permission to follow you far and wide. I am living in the midst of a celebration, glittery charm included. For many tomorrows, I am aware that today of all days, there is glitter in my hair. It matters not, I say to the sparkle! Glitter me Christmas all the way!

ornament 16.jpg

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

Days are crossed off the calendar, and the Christmas countdown is making good time. Officially, there are 4 days, 23 hours, 48 minutes and 03 seconds. I give you the Christmas countdown and one Christmas photo.

How Do I Love Thee?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

We definitely should treat each other well and be kind and thoughtful every day and every season. But sometimes we do need reminders of that. It's easy to fall back into old and/or bad habits or get caught up in the stress and hustle and bustle of work and everyday life. Maybe we need bi-weekly reminder holidays, that would be nice 😆

Kind and thoughtful! Yes! It takes less effort to be kind, so I don't understand the problem. It's a no brainer isn't it?

I guess we do need reminders, but my grandmother lives in my head, keeping me honest! Lol

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week ahead!

Good relationship brings good memories. I lived with my uncle's family some time back and now that I left for my own family, I know how much I miss them daily and how the good memories keep flashing in my brain. I do feel like visiting them most times especially in a festive season but the distance and my education wouldn't allow me, the university hardly gives an holiday break. All I do is calling them on the phone and chatting with my cousins on social media.
Those are lovely Christmas picture you have there. Have a splendid day

That is such a touching memory. You were so lucky to have a caring uncle and it sounds like you are doing well in life.

I love to hear stories like these. Calling/chatting is good, it is keeping in touch and that means you appreciate and care for them. You are blessed richly with a wonderful family.

Thank you for the words.

Oh, do you remember the storybook about kissing the frog and having them turn into a prince?

Yes. Probably everyone remember that. That is an unforgettable classic childhood tale, even in my country (in Hungary).

I give you some !PIZZA and some !LUV.

Bringing the cheer of Christmas into the lives of many, how delightful the pictures to remind us we can find this every month of the year, if we look closely.

Kissing frogs large or small, tales of fairies and glitter it's a time to gather around and share the cheer with friends and foe, have a wonderful count-down to the day Denise.

The more we live, the more memories we have. I am in my late 20's but when I look back, I cry and smile.

Kissing a dud here and there is part of the single lady's journey hahaha. Oh the memories of long ago that seem so clear and so close to the surface. I always knew they were frogs until I met the special lovely love of my life, my prince. Ooops memories that were so locked away. You have a special magic Denise conjuring up the past of a life time ago. Sending love to add to your Christmas stocking⭐️💗

Hehe. I love that story and my daughters loved that story when they were little. My son, not so much. :)

I forgot to ask what you are doing for Christmas! Thanks for that extra bit of love for my stocking! ❤️ You are such a lovely blessing in my life.

Christmas is a family thing for us as well and for the first time for a lot of years Ben and I are not hosting Christmas at our home, it going to be at my daughter's and her lovely man. So on Christmas Eve we drive a couple of hours down the highway to their place. It will be full of fun. I truly believe that grabbing the moment to establish happy and lasting memories have to be the best legacy we can leave. Much love lovely Denise💚❤️

Four more days, Denise. Four more days.

My theory is that it's not actually Christmas that gets you so excited, but rather the Christmas season leading up to it. You were born to be merry. So, savor every moment of those four days.

You are 100% correct. I think Christmas is a time of gladness and family, warmth, love, and all of that wrapped up in my heart.

The reality of it is that I enjoy the leading up to the day enormously. The buildup, the decorating, the warmth, the feelings of love and family... The kindness spread for no other reason, other than it is Christmas.

Yes. Guilty. Very guilty. I savor every moment of it. I even drag everyone I know into it. Why not? :)) Who doesn't want to be deliriously happy? Except for Krampus.

Thanks, Quill!

I think to a large degree scarcity has a way of making things extra special. I learned from Bob Ross that often the light is only accentuated by the darkness.
Oh it is the best time of the year! I think I have bit off more Christmas cheer than I should have. All this month spending like I have lost my mind. Thankfully Christmas does only come once a year. If not, I would surely be a forever prisoner in the poor house more than usual! 🤣

Truth. If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. All true. You are right, of course.

It is the best time of year. As kids, Christmas is so magical, everything is brand new and exciting. We get swept up in the mystery of it all. I agree it would not be so exciting if we had it every weekend.

Plus, Santa would be a wreck.

It would truly be wonderful if the spirit of Christmas was with us, all year round

I think it can be individually if not generally. The world cannot function normally without the spirit of Christmas in some individuals all year round. Just imagine a world without the sun all year round and then you have the picture of a world without the spirit of Christmas all year round at least in some individuals ! The more people imbibe the Christmas spirit all year round, the better the world becomes for us all.

I have to agree with you. There are always good people in the world and if that isn't having the Christmas spirit, I don't know what is!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.
