Finnish rally gun Esapekka Lappi continues with getting his career back into the top WRC1 class and after a dominant win at Arctic Rally Finland, he has a chance to prove himself at gravel of Portugal.
His biggest rival in Portugal will be Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen who had really terrible weekend in Croatia 10 days ago. At Arctic Lappi won over Mikkelsen but Lappi is Finnish and he drove that rally numerous times (but in opposite direction) so he knows the configuration of the special stages better then Mikkelsen.
Both of them will have equal position in Portugal because that event was cancelled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, while Lappi had a full season with M-Sport Ford and Mikkelsen sit out the whole season until some rallies with Škoda at the end of the season. Well he tested with Pirelli but that was not competitive driving.
Drivers need competitive driving if they want to be up to speed. Otherwise it's going downwards.
Lappi is again with EVEN Management after he lost his seat at M-Sport Ford because he didn't want to bring the money for the seat. That's motorsport these days.
The team will be still Printsport from Finland, entrant is Movisport from Italy and the car is Volkswagen Polo R5, the same as at Arctic.
Let the best win in Portugal - as always...
