THE POWER OF UNITY
Hello family of God. Hope you all are doing great today. Lets continue with our study from the book of Genesis. We just got to cahpter ten. Yaaayy how time flies. I just hope we are learning from these lessons and study. Now chapter ten dwelt more on the generations of the sons of Noah which are Shem, Ham, and Japheth. If you read further, you will get to know about Cush who gave birth to Nimrod who was a mighty hunter before the LORD. Cahpter 10 majorly talks about how the generations were divided into various families on earth after the flood.
So now, we are moving on to chapter eleven, we were made to understand that the whole earth spoke the same language and then as they moved from the east, they did everything together with no fight or quarrel. Now something happened.
11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Why will they even think of doing such in the first place? Did they think they could build such and reach heaven? Did they want to see God face to face? What was their motive actually? To me, this is not right and it reminds me of the serpent telling Even that if she ate the apple, she would be like God. This must have been the same thought in their minds not knowing that God is the Almighty and can cause them all to stop breathing in one second. Now what did God do?
11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Here, I can see the power of unity. Even God knows that anything can be done among united people and that is why He had to take action before their plan works. Lets look at this from the positive aspect, when people are united whether as couples, family, siblings, colleagues, church members or any group at all, they can achieve great things working together and that is why it is good for people to be united especially in faith and prayers so that God will give them speedy answers. Back to our study, these people are united but for the wrong purpose and so God took action.
11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Because they were of one accord and they had one language, God had no choice to scatter their languages so they won't understand each other anymore and then their plan of building a tower to reach heaven wouldn't work. I guess that is why we now have different tribes and languages scattered all over the world and people not understanding other people's languages. I pray that may we not offend God and may God give us the spirit of unity and help us to use it positively well in Jesus name. Amen.
