Daily dose of Scripture with Kodeblacc Day #15; Soul searching[Psalm 42:11].

Welcome to today's episode of my daily devotional on the Hive. Yesterday, I clocked 2 weeks of sharing God's word daily. I can't exaggerate how exciting the experience has been.

Today, I'll be sharing a verse from the book of Psalms. A Psalm of King David to be precise.

Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
Psalms 42:11 NET

I've shared a couple of verses from Psalms before, and here's another one. This time again, it's a Psalm by David.

In this verse, we can see David doing some soul searching. He was literally talking to himself, asking deliberate questions. And while he was searching his soul, he still found a way to encourage himself in the Lord.

As believers today, we should try to emulate this character/act of David. We should take some time to really reflect on the things that we think should bother.

Why Am I sad? Why do I worry? Why Am I scared? God has assured us that He'll take of things for us. So why should our soul be depressed?

We should learn to shake it off. In today's verse of Scripture in another translation, David said he'll hope in God. And that's because He knew God will always come through for him.

He[David] said he'll hope in God and sing His praises. He was literally conditioning his soul on what to do. We should learn to condition and direct our minds with what the positive things that we want in our lives.

I have had such experiences. One was when I was still in college. I was in my final year, however, I had failed some courses that ensured I won't graduate with my course mates that year. It really got me sad and worried. It was even more worrying when I had to sit for the exams again. I wondered if I was going to pass the course, or fail again.

The devil kept feeding me with lies in my head, until I found courage in the word of God. I assured myself that I was going to pass, and even if I didn't, it won't change God's plan for my life. The first victory was won in my head. And the second victory came when the results were out.

I don't know what struggles you face in your mind, or even physically that causes your soul to be depressed. It is my prayer that like David, or even me, that you find a way to hope in God.

Let's say a word of prayer;

Dear father, today again you have shown us through your word why we should hope in you. Sometimes our souls are depressed. We are downcast and worried. But today, we find strength in the victories you have won for us in times past. And on the strength of those victories do we hope in you. We'll sing your praises forever, Amen!

Thanks for reading.
