Proverbs Study 3 - practical guide for living.

Here in South Africa it's 3 minutes past midnight. Sunday the 31st Pentecostal Sunday.

Let's continue looking at Proverbs.

In these 2 verses children are instructed to listen to their father and to not depart from what their mother learned them.
Lots of Proverbs start with a condition what to do and then followed up with a promise.

This 2nd part is not so much a promise but more of a reward. If you fulfill the condition then you get the rewards. These decorations will make you beautiful. It show that such behaviour is pleasing to the Lord.

These proverbs also corresponds with the fifth commandment.

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.>

Here it comes with a promise of a long life. Interesting to note is that God is treating parents equally. The child must listen to the mother and father equally.

What is so wonderful of the Bible is that no teaching stands alone, there are always other references throughout the Bible that support the teaching.
