FORGIVENESS

We all have been hurt at one point of our lives or the other and also, we've also hurt someone but one thing that keeps us moving is forgiveness.

I bet me of all persons shouldn't be the one writing this, but I just have to write it because like they say, "We learn every day" and I have seen reasons why we were admonished to forgive. As long as we refuse to forgive, we can and will never move forward. We will always dwell and remain in the past, never seeing anything good because we feel everybody that comes or will come our way will end up hurting us. We will have no room to welcome people and will always build a bridge between us and the people around us even when they love us genuinely.

Colossians 3:13

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

If I was asked if it is easy to forgive, I would have said no and I still say no because we are human and as human, we see reasons why we shouldn't forgive that person that has hurt us but when we finally decide to live our life to please God, the grace of God makes it easier to forgive people who have hurt us and will hurt us along life journey.

It takes the grace of God upon a man to forgive an offender. The truth is, when we refuse to forgive someone, we hurt ourselves more than we hurt the person who we've refused to forgive for one thing or the other the person did. It is a difficult thing to master but forgiveness is a kindness we are showing to ourselves and not to others.

Forgiveness is hard and a very powerful thing, but it goes a long way when we learn it through the help of the Holy Spirit and learn to forgive ourselves and others even before they ask for it. Not being able to forgive someone else is actually just punishment for ourselves.

Ephesians 4: 31-32

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling, and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting because the truth is, we can't forget what caused us pain but it means letting go of the pain that was caused by someone. We don't forgive so that the other person can have peace of mind but we forgive to give ourselves peace of mind. Not being able to forgive doesn't serve anyone but destroys us.

Let us learn to forgive through the help of the Holy Spirit.
