Prejudice

John 8: 37 - 40, I known you are the descendants of Abraham, nonetheless you are ready to annihilate me because you have no room for my word. I tell you what I have seen in the presence of the father and you do what you have heard from your father. They answered by saying “Abraham is our father”, Jesus said, “If you were the children of Abraham, then you would do the things he did, as it stands, you are unwavering in killing me, one who has told you truth from God. Abraham surely did no such things.”

During the time that Christ walked the Earth, there were many that persecuted him and then there those that sought to learn and through that we got disciples and Christians. The interesting thing however is that those who called themselves followers of God, adhering to the rules and commandments since the inception of Israel could not see the savior when he came because of prejudice. The failed to empty their cup and re-learn, the let their old knowledge blind them to the truth that stood in front of them and by so doing they lost.

John 8: 41- 42,” You are doing the things your father does.” They protested that they are not illegitimate children, “The only father we have is God himself”. Jesus replied by saying, “If God were your father, you would love me because I came from him and am here, I came not on my own”

There are many times that we let what we already know lead us on a path which may not be right for us, we make decisions based on the past instead finding new information and focusing on the past and the future. Yes, the past is supposed to guide us but we should not be quick to judge because if there is anything in this world that we know it is that change is inevitable, people change, rules change, things change, there is advancement and new ways of doing things all the time. Thus it is pertinent that we keep an open mind in everything we do and strive to just and fair to all as much as we can.

Being Patient and fair cannot be as easy as it made to be or sound to be, but as Christians we are supposed to be able to do the impossible and achieve the unachievable because of who is in us, because of the source of our knowledge, understanding, power and authority. To be able to achieve this one need to have the Holy Spirit in their life, leading and guiding them in all that they do. The Holy Spirit will help you discern between right and wrong, things to judge and those not to etc. So in concluding today, i want you to pray and seek the face of God that he helps you in keeping an open mind so as not to fall prey to the devil.
