The tricky path to redemption.
In life, we all have done some kind of bad and unpleasant stuffs and during those periods we have caused lots of people hurt and pain. 
But there comes a point in a man's life where he seems to make a u-turn and head the right way and then, the demons go all out to work to pull him back in.
The man who seeks redemption may be doing so from a spiritual perspective or from some sorts of reawakening that makes him see the need to change.
What is Redemption?
There are two different definitions is the word redemption and we shall look at both.
Redemption is "the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil".
It is also known as "the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt".- source
The first definition is more from the spiritual angle as it can be seen in the story of how Jesus Christ redeemed the world from sin by laying his life down that man should be free forever.
Read Romans 5.
It isn't easy when seeking redemption. The man who seeks to be redeemed will keep seeing himself as not good enough and even if he tries to blend in, the demons of his past will come calling pulling him down so he doesn't go up.
We all need some kind of redemption from certain aspects of life and until we are certified okay in our minds, we will never see ourselves as being good enough to be free from the shackles of evil.
The desire to seek redemption doesn't exactly wipe away the sins of the man. It is like the first step to finding real peace and he must do within his power to make sure he is not affiliated with the sins from which he is running away from.
The redemptive package of God is an all coveringnone and when a man accepts Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he gets into a new way of life which will set in in motion for the eternal life.
Redemption is a must and until man is at peace with himself he will never be able to live free.

You are right. I believe the path to redemption starts with the desire of the individual to be redeemed.
