“...le expusieron más exactamente el camino de Dios”
(Hechos 18:26 b).
Cuando exponemos el camino de la salvación a los demás, es de tremenda importancia hacer que el mensaje sea claro y sencillo, evitando cualquier cosa que pueda confundirles. De hecho, ya están bastante confundidos porque Satanás ha cegado el entendimiento de los incrédulos (2 Corintios 4:4).
He aquí un ejemplo de cómo podemos hablar de modo que desconcierta a los inconversos y para ellos resulta ser como tapón de oídos: Nos topamos con un joven a quien no conocemos y comenzamos a testificarle. Nada más empezar cuando nos interrumpe diciendo: “ No creo en la religión. He probado la religión y no me ayudó en absoluto”. A lo cual contestamos: “Yo tampoco creo en la religión y no predico ninguna”.
¡Detengámonos aquí! ¿Puedes imaginar la confusión que esto causa? Aquí estamos, hablándole de asuntos que son obviamente religiosos y no obstante eso, le decimos que no creemos en la religión. ¡Le dejamos alucinado!
Naturalmente, sé qué es lo que queremos decir: No le estamos pidiendo que se haga miembro de una iglesia o denominación sino que entre en una relación con el Señor Jesús. No estamos promoviendo un credo sino a una Persona. No estamos abogando por una reforma sino por una regeneración, no tratamos de poner un traje nuevo al hombre sino un nuevo hombre en el traje.
Pero cuando el joven piensa en religión, piensa en todo aquello relacionado con la adoración y el servicio a Dios. La palabra “religión”, para la mayoría, significa un sistema de creencias y un estilo de vida peculiar conectado con la relación del hombre hacia la Deidad. De modo que cuando le decimos que no creemos en la religión, inmediatamente se queda con la impresión de que somos paganos o ateos. Antes que tengamos la oportunidad de explicar lo que queremos decir, ya nos ha etiquetado como irreligiosos.
En realidad no es verdad decir que no creemos en la religión. Creemos en las doctrinas fundamentales de la fe cristiana. Creemos que aquellos que profesan fe en Cristo deben mostrarlo en sus vidas. Creemos que la religión pura y sin mácula es: visitar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha del mundo (Stg_1:27).
Lo que no creemos es que la religión sea el salvador. Solamente el Cristo viviente puede salvar. No creemos en las versiones aguadas del cristianismo que circulan en nuestros días. No creemos en ningún sistema que estimula a la gente a pensar que pueden llegar al cielo por sus propias obras o méritos. Pero debemos ser capaces de explicar esto a la gente sin dejarlos pasmados con bombas tales como: “yo tampoco creo en la religión”. No juguemos con las palabras cuando las almas están en juego.

When we expose the way of salvation to others, it is of tremendous importance to keep the message clear and simple, avoiding anything that may confuse them. In fact, they are already quite confused because Satan has blinded the understanding of unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4: 4).
Here is an example of how we can speak in a way that baffles the unsaved and turns out to be like an ear plug for them: We ran into a young man we did not know and began to witness to him. Just start when he interrupts us saying: “I don't believe in religion. I've tried religion and it didn't help me at all. To which we reply: "I don't believe in religion either and I don't preach any."
Let's stop here! Can you imagine the confusion this causes? Here we are, talking to him about matters that are obviously religious and yet we tell him that we do not believe in religion. We blow your mind!
Naturally, I know what we mean: We are not asking you to join a church or denomination but to enter into a relationship with the Lord Jesus. We are not promoting a creed but a Person. We are not advocating a reform but a regeneration, we are not trying to put a new suit on the man but a new man in the suit.
But when the young man thinks of religion, he thinks of everything related to worship and service to God. The word "religion", for most, means a peculiar belief system and lifestyle connected to man's relationship to Deity. So when we tell him that we don't believe in religion, he is immediately left with the impression that we are pagan or atheist. Before we have a chance to explain what we mean, he has already labeled us irreligious.
It's not really true to say that we don't believe in religion. We believe in the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. We believe that those who profess faith in Christ should show it in their lives. We believe that pure and undefiled religion is: visiting the orphans and widows in their tribulations, and keeping oneself unspotted from the world (James 1:27).
What we don't believe is that religion is the savior. Only the living Christ can save. We do not believe in the watered down versions of Christianity that are circulating today. We do not believe in any system that encourages people to think that they can get to heaven by their own works or merits. But we must be able to explain this to people without blowing them away with bombs such as: "I don't believe in religion either." Let's not play with words when souls are at stake.
