My Newfound Feathered Friends
Say that five times fast! And then say HI to three of my favourite creatures on the planet... two of them are birds, and the other one is their mortal arch-enemy! Curious?
You'll see why that question is fitting towards the end of this post. But I really have been meaning to introduce myself to the #FeatheredFriends community here on Hive for a while, and I just couldn't seem to get around to it.
So here I am. And here they are...
Like This Majestic Lass: THE ROBIN
I can't explain to you exactly why this is the very best bird there is... but it is (and I won't be tolerating any debate). I'm playing around, of course, but robins are one of the most civilized and patient #birds I've seen. They are wonderful mothers too-- as I've watched a few seasons of rearing now.
And their skills in the grass are second to none! They seem to sense the worms and grubs just under the surface... because they get something with almost every peck. It really is amazing to watch.
Some people might call the robin a boring #bird, or perhaps that it is not very vibrant and colourful. But those people are wrong... they're just flat-out full of sh-poop!
Sorry about that... I got carried away. But just look at that beautiful bird. Sigh. Maybe my next specimen will be more popular...
Meet... THIS YELLOW BIRD!
Did I forget to mention that I am just now getting into birds? Yeah... you guys are lucky I was able to identify the robin for you. I know crows and blackbirds too, blue jays... seagulls and pigeons.
Okay, so maybe I'm not a complete avian imbecile... but it's safer to say I am.
But I see birds now... and I love them!
Those little yellow dudes are SO QUICK, and they appear to be playful. They just feel like a lot of fun, and they are more traditionally "beautiful" with their bright yellow feathers. And I can't argue.
But I know someone who can and will argue with you. Remember I mentioned an enemy at the outset, one of my other favourite creatures?
Well, curiosity usually kills THE CAT...
That's how the saying goes anyway, but this time my #cat-- the gorgeous "Theo"-- looks like she is thinking of testing that theory. (Cue the dramatic music.)
That's a lie, actually... she really doesn't bother with anything out there. I suppose if a bird landed right in front of her, she might give it a swat... but she's just interested in keeping out of the afternoon sun.
She's the best, and she has been with @sydney.potts and I for about eight years-- almost as long as Syd's been alive! (And yes... she is a girl who's name is "Theo". We didn't name her, and she likes it.)
Boom, Feathered Friends Peeps.
I did it! I shared my new backyard hobby, and my complete absence of knowledge on the topic... you're welcome. For the record, I took all these shots myself in about a two-hour span of time. I have more, but they'll have to wait.

Well, thank you very much for that! I think this might be a first for me. Cheers! :)
Great capture on that yellow bird! I believe it is a yellow warbler. And welcome to the highly addictive hobby of bird-admiring! Excellent first post.
Thanks so much... I had fun writing it. And you're right: it IS addictive! :)
I will take your word for it about the bird type... I will be getting a book shortly to help me out, and maybe then I'll have a better idea of what I'm looking at. Cheers! :)
Love your writing style 😁 to the community @thatcryptodave ! One of my favourite bird is the Starling and I quite suck at identifying birds, which yet doesn't remove the fun of enjoying birds ♥️
Thanks, Barbara! I appreciate the kind words, and the peace of mind of knowing that I'm not the only ignorant bird lover. It certainly doesn't remove ANY of the fun. Thanks again. :)
