Eagle And His Dinner

avatar
(Edited)

My entry this morning is the eagle flying above my head as a friend and I walked the Confederation Trail in Montague, PEI.

There are no poisonous snakes on the Island but it doesn’t matter. If I see one, the devil himself might as well be there as I will take off screaming..

Gaylene and I saw the eagle coming towards us with a snake or eel in it’s claws. We were both screaming now!

I wanted to take a photo but we were afraid the eagle might let the snake slip and drop it on our heads.

The eagle has finished the dinner and rests by the shallow water on one side of the trail.

After the meal, the eagle is peacefully flying around.

Cormorants can always be seen swimming and diving into the Montague River.

My friend waves as we rested on a bench by the bridge.

Folks with dogs and others on bikes enjoy the trail which used to be a railway bed.

I’ll leave you with a beautiful bush loaded with pink blossoms I saw at the start of the trail.

Oh my! A lovely walk, but I would have been hoping that eagle was holding on tightly to his lunch as he flew over, too! That is pretty amazing that you got that shot!
Eeek! !tip

Thanks Melinda! @melinda010100. It was wild there for a few minutes until the Eagle passed. It was almost like he was showing off his catch.😄

That is just an amazing photograph. Seriously. I love the rest of your walk too, but that snake....

I don't much have an argument with snakes in general until social distancing isn't practiced. In this case makes me really fond of the Eagle.

Thank you!

I was laughing as I was reading this but had I been there then I would've screaming right along side of you..lol. That is not something you see every day and I'm glad you got some photos to share with us! 💕 🙄

Haha Dee, it was something seeing that Eagle with the snake hanging down, He was close and I just snapped fast to get some kind of a shot of it before maybe being hit in the head with a snake. I would have surely passed out it that happened.😀 ❤️

A great video Melinda. Thanks for thinking of me. I do love seeing the blue jays. Some of them must be getting up in age that frequent my backyard.

My first thought was that it is an eel and not a snake because it looks like an eel head and I think I can see some fins, so screaming was only neccessary because of this super cool sighting 😉
The photo looks great, Jo, you were really lucky to see something like that, and also fast enough to take that shot. The other photos are very cool too.

A few days ago I have seen a few swans flying over the lake like your eagle did, and their reflections were also nice to see in the water, but all I could do was to look and smile. I had the macro lens on the camera and was in manual mode, so I didn't even have a chance to take a photo within the five seconds they were to see.

Our eagles are all in the mountains and very seldom to see - I haven't seen any in many years.

Thanks for sharing these amazing photos, Jo, have a great afternoon 😊

It was a scary looking thing the eagle was clutching. I wasn’t able to focus quick enough to get the shot with more definition on it.

The swans would have been a great photo. Those moments are rare and happen so quickly there is no time to change the lens.

I can’t log into peakD or engage at the moment . I hope it’s a temporary glitch.

Have a pleasant evening Johann and thanks always. :)

You did a great job - it is as you say, such moments are rare and you reacted very well. I wonder how many others would have been quick enough to even think to take a photo ;)

PeadD and Engage work fine for me, but I don't want to log out and try to log in, because I shut down the computer in a few minutes anyway.

Have a very nice rest of the day too 🙂

Don’t sign out Johann if you use hivesigner. Arcange said the hivesigner site was down and may take awhile. What happened was I cleared my history on engage and then couldn’t sign in again. I can still go in on Hive.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Have a good day :) I’m off to bed.

Good morning Jo,

I didn't sign out, because I went to bed 😉 but I use Hive Keychain anyway.
It happened a few times before that Engage didn't work. In such cases I was really lost, because I love this App and I wouldn't know what to do without it.

Have a wonderful Sunday Jo 🙂

The hivesigner is working this morning Johann. I am using an iPad and can’t use the keychain with it for some reason.

In order to keep engage working, I have to clear the history every once in awhile and then have to sign in again.

Have a great day. 😊 It looks like it might be a sunny one here.

It's windy here and although the sun shines most of the times it is a bit cold outside, but never mind, I'm at work and won't go outside anyway ;)

That's strange that keychain does not work for you, but I have no idea of iPads or other Apple products. But as long as you know what to do when it does not work, it's good, unless the problem is on the side of Hivesigner, but then nobody will be able to use it ;)

Have a wonderful day too Jo.

I’ve used the iPad for a couple years after my laptop died out. I have an attachable keyboard for it that fits on the wider side and makes typing easier for long posts. I should try the keychain again but if I remember correctly ( and I don’t always 🤔) the iPad was considered a mobile and it wasn’t working on them.

The outside temperature is recording as 20 C but it seems cooler.

Don’t work too hard and have a great day. 😉

OK, I understand - I have a tablet PC too, but nobody uses it, because it's too small (10"), although it has an attachable keyboard too. I have never had an Apple product, but my son loves his super expensive iPhone. He has bought it used, but still much too expensive for a phone in my opinion.

No, I don't work too hard - had even some time to make a post for the #photo52 challenge 😉
Once more, have a great day too 🙂

An iPhone would be great. I’m sure your son loves it. They are expensive and probably take decent photos.

I tried other tablets but they were not the same as the iPad. I use the big computer to upload my photos and then google automatically transfers them to my photo folder on the iPad. Can’t load them with just a tap as was advertised with my camera.

Have to make a trip to Montague to get a new hummingbird feeder. The mischievous raccoon was here last night and torn the little feeding gadgets off the one I have hanging up outside. He drank all the sugared water out of it. I filled it up again This morning but the hummingbirds are flying around it and won’t drink from it without the little yellow cups the raccoon destroyed.

Another beautiful day. I hope yours is the same without the mischievous raccoon. 😊

Yes, the photos he takes are great, but for me it's just a phone which costs about 10 times more than mine.

Should I smile or should I cry? I decide to smile, although the hummingbirds didn't drink, because I can imagine how the whole situation looked like ;)
I think I can look forward to hummingbird photos from you soon :)))

We don't have raccoons here, but I like them because they look so cute - I know they eat and destroy anything though.

We have clouds, rain, sunshine and then clouds and rain again. My motorbike is in the garage for maintenance anyway, so now I have some time at home for the letter "E" - I'm still searching for a last "E" 😉

As I was reading your remark I thought of E for evil raccoon and E for easy rider for the motorbike. I saw the movie ‘Easy Rider’ years ago and you probably have too.

Now I have another hummingbird feeder, it will have to be brought in at night or the evil raccoon will be happy to have a new one to destroy. 🙃

Maybe I should leave him a pail of sugared water and he would keel over from all the sugar. 😅

My phone is pretty basic, a Motorola. It’s good enough for what I need.

Easy Rider? Why didn't I think of that? But I still haven't finished my post and although I have my six words I could implement it somewhere in the Text 👍 great, thank you Jo 🙂
But I thought of evil, not of an evil raccoon though ;)

That's a real bad guy - do you really think he wouldn't eat or drink everything you give him and then go to the hummingbird feeder anyway? Maybe you should mix some alcohol into the water. When he's drunk he might prefer to sleep ... or destroy even more ;) lol

I have a chinese Xiaomi and if the light is right the photos are quite nice :)

Have a great afternoon, Jo 🙂

I used to leave a bit of food out for another raccoon. They are quite clever. If I didn’t he would do his business up as close to the basement window as his rear could manage. Mr.Poopie was killed by a vehicle and that was the end of those rascals until this one last night.

Maybe placating this one with food and a good shot of alcohol would do the trick.🤣

Have a good night Johann.😊

Haha, that's great, not that the other one died, but that he showed you what he wants and what would be the consequences if you don't follow his rules ... and that you gave him this name tells me that you needed a few poops until you realized that 😉

Maybe this one tries the same, but just another way. I think they are quite smart little animals.
Be careful with alcohol though, because he might become rabid when he drinks alcohol - the rabid raccoon might destroy everything just to get more ;)

Good morning Jo, have a great day 🙂

Good afternoon Johann. I didn’t leave anything out for the raccoon and I brought in the new hummingbird feeder for the night. Everything looks okay this morning so maybe the rascal went on his way to another house. They can be destructive sometimes as their little claws are like hands and they are skilled at opening garbage cans.

The former raccoon did leave a few poops at first and after I started putting out some bread or apples at night he didn’t do it. Anytime I forgot, he would poop there again. He had me trained. 😆

I’ll cut up some apples to leave out for this one tonight as he may be hungry.

A breezy morning here. I hope your day is going well.😊

I think he will come back to you if he doesn't get anything to eat at the other house, and this raccoon is training you too - give me food or your hummingbirds will stay thirsty ;)

Yes, my day went quite well, but very busy at work and then I had drive twice to the motorcycle workshop with my son, because his motorbike was also there for maintenance. At first he got his motorbike back after they made the maintenance work, but when we came home there was some pointy thing stuck in the motorcycle tire. So we had to take the motorcycle back to the workshop where they had to order a new tire.

But he does not mind, because the weather is not very nice he prefers to take my car anyway ;) lol

Oh the rascal will be back! 😀 The raccoons have their route and keep checking the same places on their nightly route. These animals know what a sucker I am.

You had a busy day and then the motorcycle tire. It seems everything happens at once.

Take care and have a great evening, Johann.

I don't think you're a sucker when you even feed animals which destroy your things - you're just too good 👍🙂

Here we have a saying that goes like "if the devil gets kids there will be more than one" 😉
It's all good now, the new tire is ordered and I think on thursday we both will get our bikes back. Hopefully the weather will be nice too.

I'm curious how the raccoon story goes on ;)

I am bringing in the hummingbird feeder each evening. Last night the raccoon must have eaten the apples and went on his way.

There is also a skunk coming around but he minds his own business and will not spray unless he is startled or scared.

Good your bikes are back and you have good weather to ride. 😊

Cool, you have a skunk too - there's so much wildlife right at your doorstep 🙂
Skunks look so nice in black and white, but I know them only from photos ... and I have never smelled one ;)

Well, my bike is still there, but I hope to get it back tomorrow afternoon. Today was nice, but they predict a rainy rest of the week and the weekend should not be better - maybe they are wrong again 😉

I might be one of the few people who like skunks. Most people are afraid they will get sprayed by them but they don’t spray unless frightened.

They let go a spray that is an offensive weapon. It is not poisonous but the smell will stop any predator in their tracks.

It smells similar to a whiff of marijuana -why it’s called skunk weed.🤪

So it doesn't seem to smell bad, does it?

I have never smoked marijuana, but I have smelled it from our neighbor below and I have smelled the cannabis plants many times, because we get sometimes a lot of them to store when the police finds a plantation. They get all cut off and are dried at a secret and locked place in our building.
Once we didn't have eough space, so we have stored the plants in an empty office. I can tell you that all of us have been very happy for the next few weeks ;) lol

It’s debatable as most people think skunk spray is foul smelling. it hard to get the smell out if your dog or cat got sprayed. Or even yourself!

Cannabis is legal here and all different kinds are sold at the cannabis store. Even eatable ones. Every household can grow 4 plants if they want. It was a big deal at first but now the controversy has quieted down and it’s no different than buying alcohol.

I don’t smoke it. I tried one time and it burned my throat and didn’t do anything for me. I have never smoked cigarettes either. Hubby still smokes cigarettes sometimes but doesn’t smoke in the house.

Smoking is not allowed in apartments and you must be 15 feet from a building.

I think I said good night too early ;)

Now I know why my daughter wants to move to Canada ;) lol I didn't know that about Cannabis, but I'll ask her tomorrow.

I began to smoke when I was almost 30 and when the kids came a few years later my wife and I quit smoking, but after about 6 1/2 years later we have been stupid enough to begin smoking again. I have quit in July 2018 again, but my wife still smokes. I wished we had such a law as yours. She doesn't smoke in the apartment, but on the balcony andsuch a law mght help her to think of quit smoking too :)

But now, have a good night Jo 🙂

Oh no! I hope I haven’t got your daughter in trouble by telling you about cannabis being legal in Canada.

It’ s great you had the will power to stop smoking. I wish hubby didn’t smoke . Many people have quit with all the health issues involved. My friend that died was a smoker and had COPD that contributed to her death.

I thought she would want it because of the beautiful landscape and the nature. She was talking about a log cabin somewhere remote. Now I know why ... I'll talk to her in the afternoon ;) lol I bet she didn't know that, but I'll tell you later.

It was my third try, but this time I won't smoke again, because life is so much easier without that stinking stuff.

For sure it is stinking stuff and I’m happy I didn’t start smoking. It was a hip thing to do at one time with all the sexy advertisements of the Marlboro Man and others.

Did you find out anything from your daughter about her reasons for coming to Canada?

I hope your day is going great and the weather is good Johann.

Good afternoon Jo,

right and I do hope my children don't start smoking - I hope they are not stupid like their parents were ;)

Hahaha, yesterday my daughter drove me to the workshop to get my motorbike back and I asked her for her real reason. She only smiled, but then my son, who was sitting in the back said "because cannabis is legal" and then she laughed, but she said she would love the beautiful country too ;) lol

Our weather is changeable, Jo, but it didn't rain yet. I'm in the office anyway and didn't have much time today. But I had some minutes inbetween to search for F photos. Now I'm working on a post for tonight ... well, for me it's evening already ;)

Hope your weather is fine and you have a good day, Jo 🙂

Kids are up to date on everything. 😄 It would be great if your children don’t start smoking. My parents both smoked and I never did. I did try it a couple times with other kids ,of course, but it wasn’t for me.

I think my mother wore herself out trying to make me into something I couldn’t be for she never bothered trying to discipline the children like she did me. I wish it could have been different but it is what it is.

Your sister may find, like me, she will need all the inner strength associated with a rebellious nature later on in life.

Beautiful weather here Johann. I am enjoying it.

I’m sure you will find some great “F” words. It reminds me of the riddle about finding a word that starts with F and ends with uck.....Firetruck.😮

Have a wonderful evening.😊

My whole family smoked and I didn't - I started with 28 because I thought I could try it for a while and then quit again, but I couldn't for 10 years. Then the kids were born and my wife and I quit smoking ... for 6 1/2 years. Then we have been stupid enough to begin again. But now I am sure that I will never do it again 🙂

You can't go back in time and it is as it is, that's right. Many things in my life have gone "wrong" too, but if I had not done everything like I did or if my parents had not forced me to take this job I wouldn't have what I have now ;)
So, your mother has made you to the likeable woman you are - I don't think that's bad, but of course I don't know the whole story ;)

I have found some F's but not this word - none of these 😉

It's great that your weather is beautiful - enjoy it and have a wonderful weekend 🙂

So you think I’m likeable. Well thank you Johann. You are most likeable yourself.😘

No matter what, we miss our parents after they are gone. I think of mine often and mother has been gone 30 years. I believe parents do the best they can with what they know at the time, there are personalities clashes and many unknown factors children don’t understand.

At some point in life we have to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and take responsibility for our own life. Now aren’t I the philosophical one! 🙃

It’s wonderful you do not want to ever smoke again.

I hope your weekend weather is warm and sunny. ☀️

0

Haha, we don't know each other and I think I am right, but I'm not very sure if you are right ;) lol

I think we begin to understand our parents when we have kids ourselves. They only want the best for us and only try to do their best that we have a good life, but to also be a bit philosophical, it is also like my son has said to me lately "I know what you mean, but please let me also make my own mistakes!". I understodd what he meant and let him do, but I'm always kind of scared when he's on the go, and I try to tell him that too. I hope he will make it without mistakes ;)

It is easy to not smoke, but sometimes I'd like to have a cigarette. These thoughts last for a few seconds and then they are gone again :)))

We have still changeable weather - I hope your's is better and you have a wonderful weekend, Jo 🙂

Fantastic catch of the eagle and his dinner. You have more green grass it seems than us, but the trees seem to be about the same level of green. One more good rain for us and we should be all greened up. I don't think our wildflowers have started up yet, but it has been a few days since a walk.
