A wild bird show after the rain!

Changed my mind, edited bird names at the end of the post!

You can test your birding expertise by naming the beautiful bird species in the photos. If you can't, please enjoy the show!
I am not going to mention the names of any birds here, but I will only show you their habits after a rainstorm!
As said, I will prefer your naming of the birds!

125.JPG

The last drops of the rainstorm can be seen on this Hibiscus flower!

112.JPG

The bird that you see above, lives in a tree near our bedroom window and his song is my alarm clock in the mornings. He is also the last singer at night.

113.JPG

Our smallest bird flushing and checking out if the rain is really going away!

122.JPG

This one above should be easy to name lol.
At the front is a cat and at the back is a chicken hahaha.

199.JPG

This is the new youngster that was born here in our garden a few weeks ago!

144.JPG

These clouds were rushing by, driven by the strong winds to go and wet the areas behind the mountains!

236.JPG

Yay! Chirping started as here came the sun behind that Elephant cloud!

IMG_4529.JPG

And of course the sun brings with it the sun lovers!

IMG_4537.JPG

Coming out to sit and bask in the sunlight!

IMG_4578.JPG

This youngster was so happy that he was considering a song using one of the flower tubes as a microphone 🤣

And That's All Folks!

You better believe me when I say that the strong high winds can clear the sky above the bay where we live within minutes and the sun can do the same with any rain pools that have formed on the roads. A beautiful sight is to watch the steam rising from the rain puddles during summer!

But it is now still winter here and the sun is not as fierce to raise steam clouds from the puddles. I will however endeavor to show you in a photo when I see it again.
Many of you might know from my previous posts that we live in an abundance of wildlife and sealive here and it is a paradise!

Note: All photos, except the first(cited), are my own, unedited and cropped for uploading.
Camera used: Canon Powershot SX60HS

Right, I have had a few suggestions here about the bird names.
Here is a full list of the bird names:

Photo 1. Cape Robin/Cape Robin-Chat (Cossypha caffra)
Photo 2. African Dusky Flycatcher (Muscicapa adusta) "Teapot"
Photo 3.Squirrel and a Egytian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca)
Photo 4. Olive Thrush (Turdus olivaceus)

Photo 7. Yellow Bishop (female)(Euplectes capensis)
Photo 8. Brimstone Canary (Crithagra sulphurata)
Photo 9. Cape Sugarbird (Juvenile) (Promerops cafer)

Congrats to those that got some right!

Well, here from my balcony I can see Sparrows, Blackbirds, Doves which we also call "Rats of the sky" and crows from time to time.

That's why I love to see your photos with so many different colorful birds just around your house 😀

There's just one thing I don't understand: why do you call Squirrels Cats? 🤣 lol

Cheers and !BEER

Thank you and I am glad that you appreciated my post Hannes.
I don't understand that an Austrian mountain goat can see the difference between a squirrel and a cat, but you like the "chicken" in the background hahahah

Glad that you caught my humor there my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, I like your post Zac. As said I can see only Sparrows and Blackbirds, so I love to see what you see when you go outside, and I envy you a bit for that 😃

Yes, that chicken looks nice, although it reminds me a bit on an Egyptian Goose 😉

Thank you Hannes,
I have today edited in a list of all the bird names at the bottom of the post.
Believe me that I also envy you for your beautiful country.

I like your uptake on the Egyptian Goose hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

So you have done some research - great 👍😀

Luckily Google showed me a photo of the exact same bird when I search for "south africa bird white rings around eyes" 😉

Don't need to do research as I know my birds lol.

So now go and ask Mrs. Google to show you ; "south africa bird with pink rings around eyes" lol

Cheers and thanks!

I clicked on reply too early, because I wanted to add
You don't see the beauty in your own garden - the neighbor has always the greener lawn ... or so 😉

Again? You seem to be in hurry during your replies?
I have to first edit every reply before I post it due to this wandering finger of mine hahaha.

If you water your own garden, it will look the same as the neighbor's garden hahaha

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, again 😉
I also read my replies before I press the button, but sometimes I just forget to reply to one or two sentences and if I think it's important enough I do a second reply ;)

So you mean the rain is not enough? What if I give the lawn some !BEER ? Maybe then the grass grows in curls? 🤣

Well, if it makes you feel any better, at times I forget to read the reply and once I have clicked the reply then I see that there's a few mistakes. So then I have to click the edit to correct the mistakes and then re-submit again hahaha
A few times after I have re-submitted, I see another error and I have to do the whole edit procedure again lol

Oh, so no wonder you look longingly at the greener grass on the other side of the fence.
Simply because you are too lazy to cultivate your own lawn and you have given the job to the rain. hahaha.

Well when the rain sees this, it thinks "no, I work hard enough, I am not also going to cultivate that garden at the place of Hannes"!!! hahaha.

Drunk grass is against the law lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Haha, I'm doing that sometimes too 😉

Why is drunk grass forbidden? Drunk grass is happy grass, isn't it?
If the rain doesn't want to do his work, the grass is sad, and if I give it some !BEER it is happy again 🤣

No, no, no, you will get no sleep if the drunk grass party all night Hannes.
Don't even think about it and I have to caution you, as if the drunk grass sings your wife awake, you will be in some very serious trouble hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Nono, the grass can make party if it wants, I don't mind the noise, but it shouldn't sing and please don't wake up my wife 😆

Cheers and !BEER and have a good night Zac 😀

Hahaha, so, please, may I humbly suggest no beer for the grass Hannes.
Let's rather be reasonable and avoid marital problems.

May you have a good sleep and a hearty good night my friend.

Blessings and thanks!

OK, no more !BEER for the grass, but for another reason:
Just imagine one or more earthworms drink the beer and they get drunk too. And now imagine they are so drunk that they think they can fly and dig out of the earth on the ground to practice flying. They would be very easy victims and soon all eaten by the birds 🤣

... and finally imagine the birds get drunk from eating the drunk earthworms and believe they are earthworms ...

Hahaha, you certainly have a real mountain goats imagination Hannes.
Who would ever think about earthworms getting drunk?
And who would think that birds can think that they are earthworms?

I am convinced that these are original thoughts. Maybe you can patent it and send it to the psychological association? I am sure that Disney and Hollywood will also be interested to convert the thoughts into movies hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

My thoughts converted to movies would change the whole film industry and cinemas would stay empty ... or full, who knows 😁 lol

Now don't underestimate yourself my friend. The movie houses will be flooded.
Any movie script writer would do anything to get a hold on the mountain goat's imagination hahaha.

Hahaha, "The Drunk Earthworm" can even be turned into a TV series.
Imagine that! News headlines will state the new Tolkien is an Austrian mountain goat lol.

Haha, that would be funny, but I think I remember a movie with "Earthworm" in the title. Maybe we'd get copyright problems 😉

Although I know you have taught me what all of these are, all I am coming up with is Robin, Egyptian goose/chicken in the photo with your pet cat, bishop, and sunbird! Full names? Nope, can't do it, but I certainly love that elephant cloud!
Thanks for posting all these beauties to Feathered Friends!

Hahaha, I am not laughing at you Lady Melinda, but rather at myself.
Can you believe that I know most of the birds here and I can even tell you what it is just by hearing their call, but I only know their nicknames like the little "Teabag". So, when I place the photos of the birds, I have my book beside me in case I make any errors in the names.
But I hear you and I will place each of the bird names in a list at the bottom of the post!

Glad that you liked the elephant!
My pleasure to post in #featheredfriends

Blessings and thank you!

Hahaha, I would really love to show you all of the birds my dear friend.
But there is a huge variety and an added thing to remember is that other birds arrive during the seasons.
Especially when the grapes and apples are ripe. Something like a million vines and trees to keep them happy lol.

Blessings!

Thank you, steam, fog and mist are all some of my favorites, as they always lend that special mysterious feel to some of the scenes.
Glad that you liked the photos Lady Mary.
