The Osprey by the River

Osprey On A Perch

On a recent walk by the Deschutes River in downtown Bend Oregon we got the chance to view an osprey. The bird was hanging out on one of the two man made nesting towers provided for the birds. Luckily I had my telephoto lens on and was able to capture a few decent shots.

This is probably the most in focus full zoom 300mm shot I have taken so far with my new lens of a few months. The shot has also been cropped in Lightroom to highlight the bird. I guess time will tell whether I was just lucky or getting more experienced with the lens. 😀

After moving around to get a little better view...

I think I caught his attention and quite possibly his ire judging by his stare down.

Because he begins to stir on his perch...

Open his wings...

Spread them wide...

And fly away.

Thank you, it surprised the heck out of me when I looked up and saw it. Thanks to Google image search I was able to identify it. Obviously I need to work on my bird identification skills. 😀

Good luck in your birding search. 👍

Excellent photos! I used to see an occasional Osprey when I was spending time on the water in my kayak, but since I am no longer able to be out there I haven't seen one in years.
Thanks for sharing these with The Feathered Friends Community!

Thank you!

That is too bad that you can't get out in your kayak, I am looking forward to giving it a try here soon. I think I will probably need to get a waterproof floating camera though. 😉

Thanks for the tip!
