Long eared owls
Hello feathered friends.
Today I'll share a few pictures of long-eared owls with you.
In the winter they gather in flocks and rest on trees during the day. At dusk, they begin their hunt mainly for rodents, but other smaller birds such as the house sparrow can be found in their diet.
Since owls can eat mice and smaller rodents from a single bite, bones, and fur that they can’t digest they simply spit out. In the following picture, you can notice the remains of one unfortunate mouse that ended up as a meal.
I mostly find them resting on a couple of trees located in the center of the place where I live. Sometimes there are about 50 of them on only two neighboring trees. They mostly rest on conifers because they are more protected, both from the wind and from other predators.
What I have noticed is that there is a clear hierarchy in these owls. Larger owls occupy higher places, while smaller ones have to settle for a place on lower branches closer to the ground.
This is a lower-ranking owl. You can see that by the feces all around it.
I think that this owl started to like me because she winked at me.

How lucky you are to see and photograph them owls. 🤗
This is a bird I wish very much to spot and never had a chance.
I guess so. They for some reason (mainly because of food in abundance), choose to stay here during the winter.
Cool owl.😊Did you know that when long-eared owls raise these "ear" feathers, this is how they hide. This is their instinct. Raising the feathers vertically, they disguise themselves as the bark of a tree, which also has vertical cracks. I hope I explained correctly.
Not only the ears but also the patterns on their feathers resemble tree bark.
Amazing photos of these beauties! You know how envious I am that you get to see them regularly! ♥️
I can just imagine :).
I live near the largest and most important winter stationary of Long-eared Owls.
