Black Currawong
I had difficulty identifying the first currawongs I saw. And because I put so much effort into identifying them, afterall, they were black coloured grey currawongs, this black currawong was much easier. That bright yellow eye is a distinguishing trait of all currawongs.
We spotted him when we were driving past this rock on Recherche Bay, almost as far south as you can possibly drive in South-East Tasmania. Currawongs are playful birds related to crows and they are worth watching.
I thought he was skating down the rock but he was actually doing something important.
Eating!
We were intruding on his peaceful dinner.
A look to the right.
Then he turned that eye on us.
Above, is a dark coloured grey currawong. That white area behind its legs to the underside of its tail is the easiest way to differentiate it from the black currawong, if you can convince it to show you!
