Retirement myths!

1212.JPG

Now this is my view on retirement. This old Chevrolet 1934 was supposed to be retired to the scrap vehicle yard years ago, but it is still on the road in pristine condition.

Now the kids of this day have a thing called Twerking a shaking of the bum dance, but like this old Chev I can also Twerk, just a bit slower, but just as beautiful.
1206.JPG

When it comes to speed we are slower, but we have simply learned to dodge better so that no one can drive us into a corner. That's called wisdom.
1208.JPG

Yes, our faces might have a few lines, but they are our own individual lines that show the beauty of endurance.
1213.JPG

The old and the new in this photo and I will take the old any day. That nice new truck will last for 5 or 10, or even 15 years. But that old Chev, much slower has lasted for 87 years.
1217.JPG

And that's exactly it. We have to have a purpose and in my case my purpose is to be a blessing to all others. I have the Papillon charity that keeps me busy full time, so who wants to retire and go sit on a chair waiting for better days?

No, I will not retire and I don't have a pension, so when my time comes to leave this planet I will hopefully finish my lunch first, as it will be my last drive.

What are your thoughts on retirement?

And That's All Friends!

Note: All photos are my own and taken one handed, while driving with a Canon Powershot SX60HS Bridge camera.

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Thank you kindly for supporting a post by @papilloncharity

Nice car, but the consumption is probably high, I don't know if it will be OK for the pension... well at least here they are small ... pensions I mean ... 😎

Yes, thank you and I haven't thought about the consumption as it will indeed cost a bomb to fill that gas tank.
Pensions are also small here so it is not worth it to retire, unless one has a few million in the bank, which I don't have.
So, I will work until I fall over 🤣

I'll start tagging some of posts #silverbloggers if you are cool with that

I'm going to be away for the rest of the week and won't be posting much though

As frot I am generally not too rancid - I do have a bunch of other accounts and had quite a few run ins on Steemit!

Early days for #silverbloggers and thank you for the help.
Take care on your trip and try to enjoy if it's non business.

I know that you are not rancid, else you would never have supported @papilloncharity
It seems that you have managed to get over your run ins on Steemit, as you seem secure here on Hive?

Very Beautifully said!
I decided to retire (not really - just end My stupid job and collect SSA) on March 4th - I can relate!
And like You, My job now is "making the world a better place" whenever possible.
Love the 34 Chevy by the way! It has outlasted most humans born in 34! I know.
BTW - since You are running the Charity...
If You pay Yourself on a 1099 (the Worst piece of paper their is!)..
Your eligible for some free money (to make up for that tax "gouge", I think..).
It's the PPP Loan / Grant. You will probably get back all You paid in taxes last year.
Check blueacorn.com, they have a questioner, and assist all the way. Takes about a month to receive funds, they promise a week.. It takes longer than that.
Have an Awesome Day!

Thank you and I am glad that you are also working at making the world a better place.
Unfortunately we don't have a 1099 in South Africa and instead we have a government grant which I will never apply for even though I can.
It is a small amount monthly amount that no one can live on.
I earn a small amount at the charity, but thankfully my wife earns a salary elsewhere that keeps us going.
Thank you for the well meant advice my friend.

May you also have a great day.

Now that's a beauty, my hubby said he'd love to own one of those;)
So much wisdom and truth here; the older models of anything certainly outlasts the modern ones, i can even mention my washing machine, stove etc etc. The older models lasted forever till they gave up the ghost, but the new ones pack up after only a couple of years!
I'm loving retirement but only because I chose to stay busy by setting up our BnB just before I reached my sell-by-date and love that job but Hive has fulfilled my retirement years to perfection!
Super Silvers blog @papilloncharity, thank you!

Oh yeah and there are so many sayings that we defend ourselves with such as old, but not cold and a hundred others Lady Lizzie.
In all honesty things do get a bit tougher as we age, especially on the health side. We lose a lot of speed and I cannot climb onto the roof so quick anymore.

In fact I have to search the bed every morning when I awake, to see if anything fell off during the night 🤣
When I pull my stomach in as a good looking lady comes past my pants slip down and yet, life goes on.

Seriously though Hive could play a key role in all of our lives. It is always what we make of it.

Blessings.

Slightly buckled, perhaps a bend or two, still well grounded moving forward, yes one may feel it in the bones, it's the mind that counts.

A step into yesteryear and everyone's head spins around to ogle the beauty, outmaneuvering every modern car in town... Purely on looks, flabbergasted the car still goes 😂 Great example!

Yep, I am a bit more than slightly buckled Lady Joan, but yes our bodies were designed to cope with most everything and we can adapt to our situations.
It is indeed the mind and the will that counts.

That Chevy has stolen my heart and I will swop with that old man any day of the week.
But of course he will never let go.
Glad that you liked the car.

Blessings and your !LUV returned.

Who you kidding? Our design is so flawed, most suffer with spinal problems, lack teeth, fart like demons, many lose memory, this was no grand design! One can only hope to hang onto sanity and memory the rest alas takes it's own path...

Old damsels of the road always capture everyone's eye, graceful going along never giving up, wish our trains were still there doing the same...

!LUV It's Friday! Have a good one.

Hahaha, you are so funny here Lady Joan.
Everything has an end and invariably everything deteriorates before that inevitable end.
Even old cars rattle and fart.

Well, I can see the plans with the trains, as the empty train stations can be demolished and the people can build houses one the tracks, those tracks that have not been stolen yet and shipped out.

May you guys also have a good Friday my friend.

We achieve this much quicker, but if you insist perhaps they do it with more finesse.

Won't go there... stations, trains, cable theft, railway lines gone! How deceitful and stupid are people destroying infrastructure for taxi bosses and fat cats to keep throttling the country. I don't believe there is any country in the world that can boast random hijacking of the whole land.

Treason I believe it was called, now mayhem ensues....

!LUV not sure there is any left....
!BEER to swill this bitter pill down.

The comparison is cool, but I think if the owners of the car take care of it it will still drive when their grand children are old.

So you're singing in church, but you're not twerking there, do you? I'd love to see it though 🤣

But you know what I am thinking of retirement, my friend, I'd love to retire tomorrow and not wait for years 😉

Good morning Hannes,

Yes, I totally agree with you and that old car is still going to be around for a very long time.

Hahaha, I don't even know how to twerk and if I try, I might break something, or even worse, let out a loud fart that will create panic and pandenonium.

Oh yes, I know your thoughts about retirement my friend and you know my thoughts about patience.
You will get there like millions have before you my friend, that I can assure you.
Or then again, maybe Hive will get you there sooner.

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

I am quite late today - it has been a long day at work and before I went for a short evening ride around the lake I had to do some work my wife has ordered me to do 😁

Please don't try to twerk, the singing should be enough pain for the people 🤣

I hope for the Hive, but you know that anyway 😉

Good morning Hannes,

Oh yes, when the boss orders you to do something there's no way of escaping it. I hope that your wife was happy after you performed the tasks.
At least you could get the more important ride around the lake in 🙂

Oh yeah, twerking is not for me, as I heard that one needs a big bum to do that 🤣
Don't worry, I torture them enough with my beautiful voice.

At one time or another the Hive will happen (I hope) 😎

Cheers and thanks.

Good afternoon Zac,

yes, she was happy, although we will need an electrician next week because the new electric stove which I have installed doesn't work properly. Our apartment is in a quite old building and not all electric cables are installed correctly - so it's not my fault 😉

Yep, the bigger the better for twerking 🤣

So, I don't presume that you have a current tester Hannes?
You can always feel with your finger which is the live wire to connect in the right place 🤣
Just make sure that there is no one near you when you touch the wire, else you will send both of you through the roof 🤣🤣🤣

But look at it this way, at least you will know which is the correct wire and you will save the electrician's call out costs. A bargain methinks 🤣

Thankfully my bum size will never get there to twerk 😎

Cheers and thanks.

Haha, there's not much that I respect more than electricity 😉

The wires are the correct ones, but the new stove is a bit different, needs more power and although it is a bit annoying that there are some problems with it, we have found out that way that they have done a bad job when they renewed the electrical wiring in the apartment for the previous tenants.

To be honest, I do prefer young ladies twerking anyway 😁

Phew! Okay as I was worried that I gave you the wrong advice, but thankfully you are a level headed guy, so you won't be testing the wires with your finger 🤣

I hate it when contractors take short cuts as then they leave others with big problems.
Do you know , or can you find out who did the work for the previous owner, as if it was me, I would chase them up to come and correct it 😡

Hahaha, nope, there is nothing that I can do with the young ladies, so I rather avoid temptation 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Haha, I would never do that - I would ask my wife to hold the wires for a second if I had no tester 🤣 lol

Since it was over 15 years ago there's no chance, but I have a colleague who is electrician. He will have a look next week.

Good decision, my friend 😁

Sis Hannes, but just make sure that you have some strong smelling salts around to wake her from the faint 🤣
Oh and some boxes of Apirins for the headaches 🤣
You can see that I am experienced, as I have had some shocks in my time 😜

Yep, temptation is a bitch 🤣

Cheers and thanks.
Great that you found an electrician and hope that he will sort it out.

Thank you kindly for the nice words dear friend and yes, you are right, as mass production spoiled it all.
How well do I remember the old hand made Swiss watches, real masterpieces and now everything is plastic.
But in saying this, many people have also become "plastic" nowadays.
Yep, that old truck will still outlast many future cars.

Very nice old car... they don't make them like that anymore! As for retirement, if you like what you're doing then never retire. For some of us though, retirement can be a life-saver.

Thank you Sir Keith and you are right, as I have a few friends that cannot wait for the day that they can retire from the slog.
In fact a Greek buddy of mine broke his foot a few years ago and he decided that he has had enough. So he sold his business and moved down here to coast. He has never been happier.

I read your post this morning and your retirement was also your salvation, so I am not saying that there is anything wrong with retirement, but I simply cannot afford it and I am sure that there are others in the same situation.

What I am saying though, is that if we have a purpose that we love during the retirement period, such as Hive or any other, it could make us much happier.

Cheers and !BEER

What a gorgeous old girl! I have a newer old (2011) Chev. She goes like a dream. I am hanging on to her!

I don't think I shall ever retire. Like so many, no pension, either. I did have the makings of one, but had to cash it in. A story for another time.

Oh yes, Chevvy's are good cars and I remenber my 1973, 3.8 very well. Of course you have a much later model and no reason to let it go for any of these modern headaches.

So co-incidental, as I also cashed my pension in years ago and yes, we just have to continue for as long as we can. I am however moving myself more and more into the background at Papillon to prepare for the inevitable, but the new crowd here is on fire and they are doing great things.
So everything at Papillon are looking good as far as the projects are concerned and only the finances remain stubborn. But I am working on it.
Hive blooming will be a great help.

Thank you Lady Fiona and we cannot afford a professional fundraiser.
We have never had a fundraiser over the 20 years now and it was always my job. We have established an Endowment fund with the interest covering our overheads and the projects and I am trying to build the fund to cover the future of Papillon.
Some of our board members are also pushing the fund, so let's see what happens.
Hive could play a key role in this.
