Saturday snippets
Yesterday was, as predicted, scorchingly hot. It was 39,5°C at around 11.30am as we drove home from the market. Anyhow, as I keep on talking about, C, I thought I would introduce him:
Meet Cecil who sells fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables that he sources direct from local farmers. Often they are gleanings. Always excellent value for money. Remember last year's tomato diaries? They were thanks to his procurement skills. I opened the last jar of canned tomatoes a week ago. Last year's supply lasted about that. Talk about good value. Even better, the flavour: they had none of the acidity of the commercial ones.
I digress, of course, because all I really want to do, is to share some photos of the sunset light and fiery sky.
Rambo and Pearli greeting me as I came home and was struck by the glory of our bougainvillea and how, at last, the grass is coming back. More planted on Friday.
This is the opposite view - from within the shadows...
Last evening's sunset glow. The temperature went well into the 40's Celsius.
It was still 29°C at 10.30pm.
A fiery sky was apt.
Until next time, be well

Your garden looks lovely Fiona, that sunset looks stunning!
I'll never forget the heat we experienced one February in Cape Town on the day of @therneau's wedding, it was hot hot hot!
But...I still can't say whether the humidity of Durban's heat is worse, although it does cool down earlier in the evening.
You are fortunate to have a real fresh produce supplier right there at your market day!
Happy and restful Sunday to you.
The temperature last night didn't go below 22. Our bedroom is in the loft space and it never cools. We hadn't connected the AC...I didn't sleep very well...we usually cool the room before we go to bed. Tonight, I will. I connected it. We hit 43...and there is a bad fire between Robertson and Worcester - started by lightening. We had thunder, lightening and 2 drops of rain. It's just made us more humid... Rather this, though, than winter....I promise!!
What a charming garden, love the bougainvillea ❤️ . Here in Joburg it’s winter-cold, freezing, actually! So very strange❤️
Weird. We are dying...
Hi Fiona
Gosh these temperatures have been intense, I feel bad for the vendors having to sit outside all day in the heat, but I'm so glad you got some good produce.
Those pics of the fiery sky are gorgeous. Let's hope we get some good rain after these scorching days. It apparently reached 40 degrees yesterday in Kraaifontein.
Keep cool, hope you get good news about P and your family members soon and they all recover well.
x Andy
Our market trades for 2 hours between 9 & 11. I don't think I'd manage more than that without dying. We have no shelter so it really is hectic. P, so far, is fine and her partner recovering.
Today we hit 43 in the shade next to our garden shed. I am done. My next post - tomorrow will explain why! lol
Wot no duck spam🤣
Actually, the vegetables of Cecil look awesome, so fresh and colourful as is your Bougainvillea.
Hahaha! Nope. Next week, I hope!
lol I shall be waiting
It turns out we'll both have to wait another week: the heat knocked the duck and the chooks! They're not laying!

Check out the last post from @hivebuzz:
That's very hot weather, same like what I experience here.
It was. Where are you?
In Bali, Indonesia. It's the humidity, it feels that the sky is a giant iron. And unlike the weather forecast, there is no rain at all.
Ah! I am grateful that today we're cooler. February is our killer month. More hot days are predicted. I mustn't complain: I'll take it over winter any day!
