Chicks again!

We have babies!! We're not sure how many - chicks or clutches - because the Guineafowl, unusually, are moving in a flock.

Also, unusually, the babies have arrived earlier than the last two years and when they arrived in late December and early January.

We recognise one of the hens from a pair that have bred in our plot before and who treat our garden as home. They come virtually on to the stoep and one - well, us - has to get quite close to chase herd them away from the newly planted lettuce (2 casualties already) and the ripening strawberries. The joys...

Oh, and I may well be sharing more chick photos. Love-hate relationship notwithstanding. Babies still creep into one's heart and, somehow, we must co-exist. We like that. It's becoming more of a thing, though as new houses are built in the village and their natural habitat is shrinking. Oh, and don't get me going: folk move to a rural village, full of bird (and other wild(ish) life and don't like the "noise"..._

Until next time, be well
