Friday Files: Ducking French

Kitchen day, of course, yesterday. A first: duck liver paté from free range ducks. They (the livers, not the ducks!) were a gift from the friends who are making a serious go of their Red Earth Farm. Yes, the same folk who have just embarked on a free range chicken journey. The paté may have bee an experiment, yes, but our lunch time taste-cum-quality control suggested it was good. The Husband's remarks included "addictive"... Success!

Anyhow, there is a complimentary jar for Steph and Dust. If the response is what we hope, this paté could become a regular but seasonal addition to the range.

Hummus, after moving slowly for the last while, sold out last week, so that, along with sourdough rolls and vegan aioli came off the production line. The last, also sold out is a happy by-product of the hummus and an addition credited to @lizelle who introduced me to vegan mayonnaise. This is my twist.

With the soup of the week, onion, a kind of French theme emerged.

Weird. The President of France is in South Africa on a state visit.

Oh and this is yet another cheeky contribution to the dear @dswigle's #marketfriday initiative.

Until next time, be well

Happy Saturday to you!

Sounds like Duck Pate is becoming popular of late, bought some a month ago for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lunch platter looks divine the type of ploughman's lunch I enjoy.

Sounds like your vegan mayo is another hit to add to the recipe book, wishing you a wonderful Saturday Fiona with cooler weather that kitchen a comfy nook!

Thank you, Joan! Sold more of the duck liver paté than I expected. That said I am not a fan of the cold. I comment on the heat but don't hate it the way I hate the cold 🤣

Enjoy the cool, Joan!

Nice to introduce some new tastes into the weekly market, I would imagine it sold out fast. Great that the markets have started up once again for people to earn and connect once a week.

Your creatively artistic presentation always grabs my attention. I would have to say that your husband is in a very envious position of being your taster. Who wouldn't love that job, right?

Lucky you to have friends that are raising ducks and not in need of those coveted livers. I hope their farm is doing well. I don't mind chickens, but, I have only ever seen messes from ducks! Of course, this is from families that keep them and not a farm.

Onion soup looks pretty yummy! I guess the Market picking up in March is due to the relaxing of Covid cases, I hope. Or people getting hungry! :) As always, you are a delight, and many thanks to @Lizelle for her contribution!

As I wrote, the President is announcing new restrictions. That said, the market had a 3 month break and resumed on July 4th last year. Local travel is no longer restricted so I am hoping that it continues with no issues.

And, thank you for your kind words - as always.
