HIVE OPEN MIC #151 (ENG/ESP) Faith, Hope & Love: "You Got The Love" by Florence and the Machine!

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from a small coastal town about 2 hours drive from my normal home in Cape Town in South Africa! I am getting to work away from the office this week, which is nice as there’s a lot to just get down and concentrate on.

This is Week 151 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge, and the theme for the week is “Faith, Hope and Love”! For me, this reminds me of the 2008 Florence and the Machine Song “You Got the Love”. The “Love” is clearly there, but if you look a bit deeper the song is about how the Saviour (Faith) gives the singer the strength to carry on (Hope). A typical line is “You got the love I need to see me through”!

A bit of research into this song tells me that it was already (mostly) a cover all along! The verse structure was actually released by Candi Staton and The Source in 1986. Here is that version, which is quite funky:

Then The Source worked with Candi Staton again to release the song with a bit more of a club vibe in 1991. Here is that version, which I find a bit thin and lacking in bass as my initial impression of it:

Finally, there is the Florence and the Machine version, with the powerful chorus that I am most familiar with:

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la comunidad Hive Open Mic! ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde un pequeño pueblo costero a unas 2 horas en coche de mi casa normal en Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! Voy a trabajar fuera de la oficina esta semana, lo cual es bueno ya que hay mucho en lo que concentrarse.

¡Esta es la semana 151 del Hive Open Mic Challenge, y el tema de la semana es "Fe, esperanza y amor"! Para mí, esto me recuerda a la canción de 2008 de Florence and the Machine "You Got the Love". El "Amor" claramente está ahí, pero si miras un poco más profundo, la canción trata sobre cómo el Salvador (Fe) le da al cantante la fuerza para continuar (Esperanza). Una línea típica es "¡Tienes el amor que necesito para ayudarme"!

Un poco de investigación sobre esta canción me dice que ya era (en su mayoría) una versión todo el tiempo. La estructura del verso en realidad fue lanzada por Candi Staton y The Source en 1986. Aquí está esa versión, que es bastante original:
