Today, I'll like us to ponder on something I've been thinking about recently with respect to we country, Naija. Na matter wey get weight and e dey really affect our country. Now, while we were in Nursery/ Primary School, majority of us used to sing this matching song that goes thus:

Parents, listen to your children
For we are the leaders of tomorrow
Try and pay our school fees
And give us sound education...

My bone of contention is on the second line of the song which says that, youths are the leaders of tommorow. Now, when I consider and look at the way things have been going on in terms of leadership in our country, Nigeria, I'm forced to asked, "are youths really the leaders of tommorow?" Or "we are only being deceived?" I for like see your answers concerning this.

Why I'm I saying so? If you look around, you will see that majority of our leaders, majority of those occupying strategic and sensitive positions in our country are the aged. Not just being aged, those who were leaders yesterday are still those leading in the supposed tommorow.

Take for instance, our president; this is his second time as a president. I remember circling his name while writing current affairs examination years back. But years after (the promised tommorow), he is till the leader. Where then is the truth that "youths are the leaders of tommorow"?

Considering it in two ways, could it be that the "youths" have not proven themselves to be worthy to take the stage? Or could it be that our fathers are just too greedy and selfish to evacuate the stage?

Yes! It is true that some youths are irresponsible but it is also true that we have numerous qualified and responsible youths that could lead this country forward. I mean, we are in a technologically advancing and constantly evolving world and people with archaic mindset and mentality can never meet up in terms of leadership.

If you ask me, I think it's hightime the youths arose to take the stage. Most of our fathers should just be in the backstage giving counsels and advices. Many of them are just going for the money and not thinking of how to develop the nation and make it look like those countries they travel to.

To the youths, we must learn to not follow some of the footsteps of our fathers. Let's try to right the wrongs and do what is right. Let's be the revolution!
