This is my entry for this week's discussion: THE NIGERIAN DREAM. I got to know about this discussion from @nonsowrites in the #HIVENAIJA community feeds and I decided to jump in and share my thoughts.

A quick research on the internet about Nigeria would show results of a country with countless potentials, blessed with good climate and no natural disaster. It's richness in natural resources is an envy of many economies who seemingly know how to convert potentials to finished products.

According to Wikipedia

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world, with an estimated 206 million inhabitants as of late 2019.

I was still worried about the human resources this report would mean then it went further to state that:

Nigeria has the third-largest youth population in the world, after India and China, with more than 90 million of its population under the age of eighteen.

Stay with me

Amidst all of this great statistics, a vast population still wallows in abject poverty. The unemployment rate is increasingly high with a system that pays little attention to the growing Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Market Place

With a banking system that further stifles entrepreneurial gaits to push/promote ordinary brands to becoming internationally recognized through denial of loans and start up grants. The image Market Place in monochrome above shows the NEVER SAY NEVER spirit of a Nigerian. Despite the inability to get proper shops and stores they resorted to roadside stalls which is a menace, however, due to unaccountability of the necessary cleaning outfit of the Government, this menace is left unattended to even though lives are at risk.

How can we have a steady growing youthful manpower with so much enthusiasm to thrive, to per themselves with counterparts in other African states and the world at large yet the system to make this happen has been and is still being crippled?

Its been years since independence but the very two basic necessities for industries to thrive

  • POWER and
  • INFRASTRUCTURE (GOOD ROADS) are still being questioned.

Alas, companies have come and gone to a neighbouring African state not because of mismanagement rather for the cost of running an enterprise daily on power, or inability to meet up with demands of products because of poor road network (infrastructure).

ACCOUNTABILITY
The very factions of political hands that condemns fraud are the same sect we read about on tabloids convicted of one fraudulent act or the other. They tell us to report any case of bribery yet they thrive in their very offices not with the salaries nor contentment of gratuity and pension for a work well done after years of service, but with the daily widows mints mugged from hard working citizens.

The ordinary man who swore an oat to defend the nation and its people we still see pictures and short clips of them on social media bullying the very citizens he ought to protect because he has been equipped with menacing firepower backed with authority from above.

Or is it the judicial system that is almost ready to look the other way as long as its coffers is fed fat. How can a organism function well when there are defects in every system?

The Nigeria I dream is one where everyone is held accountable for his actions or inactions. A Nigeria that that sees power given to citizens who understand that leadership is a call to serve and not an opportunity to flaunt affluence in a state of power drunkenness.

A Nigeria where the people's voice really counts.

THIS IS MY NIGERIAN DREAM

There's so much untapped potential and multi layered problems in our country. Once we can fix these niggling issues, I be live life will be better in the country.

You just said it all... .

Multilayered problems. Like an onion of problems.
However, the youths continue clamouring for opportunity at the seat of power, if we do not devise a means to hold our leaders whether old or young accountable for there Actions or Inactions we would continue chasing our tails.

A well-written post I most say. I enjoyed reading this.

There is a need for accountability. Year's of pillaging by the political elitists has felt this country in a sorry state. Some days I wonder if things will ever get better but we have to keep our hope up and fingers crossed. There is so much we can achieve--so much.
