NOT A FRAUDSTER

One year ago several young Nigerians were killed for exercising their fundamental human right to protest. I was so lucky not to be on the protest ground that day as I intended to. This was a few days before the shooting at another protest ground which I narrowly escaped.

It has been a year and not much has changed. We are still dealing with the negative stereotype which has led to the death and extortion of so many young Nigerians.

In this video, I talk about how we as a people perpetuate this narrative that online work equates to fraud. This mindset needs to stop. I discuss this extensively in this video.

I remember this one time a friend of mine asked me if I work and I was like “not really but I do few things online” the way she looked at me, I could tell what she was thinking and the moment I included “I get paid in crypto” it sealed everything for her, I’m a fraudster.

This is quite disheartening. I cannot count the number of times I have been labelled a fraudster just because I don't have a 9-5 job. We really need to see past our prejudice. I know fraud is prevalent in our society, which explains people's attitude towards those who do any form of remote work, but we also need to see how damaging this narrative is and do better.

Thanks for watching

It's so sad that despite technology advancement, people still choose to live in the past. Online money/jobs are not always illegitimate

well, the police beg to differ and they are not alone. We need to sensitize each other--ur families and friends. Let them know the realities of the modern world. We are at a disadvantage already with this current crop of corrupt leaders. We cannot keep shooting ourselves in the leg. There are a lot of opportunities online and they do not require scamming innocent people of their money

There has practically been no sphere of work that hasn't morphed into the work at home trend.

Its sad our law enforcement agents are yet to understand this norm.
It is not to say that criminals are not also using the same work at home to exploit.

One other thing is the inability to certify this.. How do your are a content creator online to a police.. ?

Great post Sir.
Leaves more to be said.

Away from the law enforcement agencies, how we as citizens stereotype people who do not have a 9-5 or a physical business is another thing we need to address. It all adds up to the general perspective that are formed overtime.

Thanks for stopping by.

I ll propose the solution is to revolutionalize the university system not to be 9-5 oriented. And make anyone go there not to get a job but to get knowledge, and that the current knowledge.

Here, here! I agree with you wholeheartedly. I am in no way subjugated to treatment like Nigerians but I face a bit of brow-raising myself when I mention my cryptocurrency interests and I live in the United States. I'm very sorry to hear of the dangers you have to face sometimes and you've done nothing illegal. Education is the way and not only to help those understand that do not but to show others they, too, can supplement their income online legally. Maybe they would focus on bringing themselves up instead of bringing others down.

Yeah, I agree. I do my bit to educate people I know (although most of them are just looking for easy money), but it goes a long way in sensitizing people about the crypto sphere.

Thanks for the tip.
