3 Peeing Statues in Brussels | 撒尿雕像们

I read that last weekend someone splashed paint onto the Manneken Pis, the famous peeing boy statue in the central square of Brussels. At that moment, the police were not available because there were also some strikes going on in the city.

It sounds familiar, but this time it's not one of the customized outfits he is usually put on. Since the 18th century, the little boy has already been dressed in costumes for special occasions. He has a dressing room in Brussels City Museum in the Grand-Place where his large variety of outfits are displayed. He owns almost 1000 outfits as gifts from all over the world, including those of Nelson Mandela, Uncle Sam, Elvis Presley, and even a condom for raising awareness of STDs.

In the museum, you can also find out his unusual history linked to the city. The boy has been "kidnapped" and returned a few times, and the one we see now is a replica.

The peeing boy statue is much smaller than most of us expected. Each time when I bring families or friends there, they are quite surprised by its size, just like me when I first saw it.

看新闻说上周末有人朝布鲁塞尔有名的撒尿小童雕塑泼了油漆，搞笑的是当时警察无法赶到，因为同时在市区还有几场示威游行需要应付。听起来真是非常比利时😆。

我想起来每次带亲朋好友去那里看这个雕像，大家都惊讶于它的实际尺寸，就像我第一次看到一样。但这并不妨碍人们对它的喜爱，每回去这小街角都是人头攒动，世界各地的人们争相和撒尿小童合影留念，互相拍照，兴奋地查看照片。我觉得那副情景也很可爱，就像我们去到一处新鲜地方旅行，也大都如此。所以拍不到无干扰的街角雕像也罢，拍拍游人同样有意思。

更好玩的是，布鲁塞尔不只有撒尿小男孩，还有小女孩和小狗，当然它们也都在街头默默地尿尿。小女孩雕像在附近一条窄街的墙面上，但是比较隐蔽，如果不是一个当地朋友领路，我还真没注意过。小狗则在另一侧的一处街道转角，我是来了比利时几年后才在一次逛街时偶然看到。

Besides the little peeing boy, do you know there are actually another two peeing statues in the city? A girl and a dog as well!


The peeing girl on the other side of the square is even more hidden. I wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been pointed out by a local friend. It is called Jeanneke-pis, created in 1985 for philanthropic work. If you throw a coin into the fountain in front of her, you are donating to the medical research against cancer.

Het Zinneke, the peeing dog is at the corner of Rue du Vieux Marché aux Grains and Rue des Chartreux. His name actually refers to a Brusselaar of mixed origins, like many residents in the city. I only discovered it by chance after a few years living in Belgium. It also has a tumultuous fate like the little boy statue: it was struck by a car in 2015, and luckily was restored later.

小狗雕塑的名字Zinneke意为混血居民，就像很多当地人一样。就像撒尿男童几经绑架而如今又被泼漆的悲惨命运，这可怜的狗狗也是命途多舛，在2015年还出过车祸，被车撞坏，还好后来又修好：
