The UEFA Champions League so far: Liverpool and Real Madrid

The UEFA Champions League at any time would always be the most competitive tournaments for me when we talk of international club football competitions. Why is it the most competitive tournament? This is so because, it is the only tournament where you have all the top teams/ clubs from different club leagues coming to compete for just one trophy. It is a league of champions because you have to be a Champion or among the top 4 or 3 as the case may be, in your local league to even qualify for the tournament.

So, you can now see why it is usually very competitive. When the best meets with the best, it is usually not a very easy one. The Champions League has been in existence even before I began watching football and we have also seen different club sides emerging as winners; some multiple times while some just once. For a side like Real Madrid and Liverpool, both have won the Champions League multiple times with Real Madrid being the ones to lift the trophy most.

Real Madrid have won the Champions League about fifteen times if I'm not mistaken whereas Liverpool FC have won it for six times only. I love the Reds so, I'll always talk about them. Liverpool FC is the only English team to win such a number of Champions League trophies which then explains why they are regarded as the Champions of England/ Europe. Whereas Real Madrid is often seen as the King of the Champions League.

Liverpool last won the Champions League in 2019 while Real Madrid last won in 2018 after defeating Liverpool in the finals. The defending champions is the German side, Bayern Munich, having lifted the trophy in the 2019/2020 season. We are currently in the 2020/2021 football season and the Champions League is underway. So far, the competition is still at the group stage level where each team have already played five legs and just one leg left to round off this stage.

More so, English teams happen to be performing very well so far with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea already sure of progress to the round of 16 stage. Though, Manchester United are yet to qualify, chances are that they will upon playing their last matche. Liverpool have been really struggling in competition could be because their key players are missing in action because of injuries and also, some of the players like Mohammed Salah appears to be out of form.

Both Salah and Mane underperformed during their outing against Ajax recently. Though they won, it was a mere narrow escape and also because Ajax Amsterdam were poor in their performance. If you ask me, I'd say that, Liverpool's chances of winning the Champions League is very slim looking at their current form. Hence, if they really want to lift that trophy, they have to step up their game and put on their best form and performances as we saw in 2019 CL season.

Speaking of the Real Madrid side, their performance this season appears very bad both in their local league and in the Champions League. So far, they aren't sure of qualification to the Round of 16 stage as they lost in their last game recently. It will be very demeaning and degrading to see a side like Los Blancos playing in the Europa League. Zidane has to put in a lot of effort if he doesn't want to land in the Europa League.

On the whole, it's still uncertain who will lift the trophy but I do hope and wish Liverpool FC huge success. I'm sure the Round of 16 stage would be more interesting to watch so, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Chelsea is a great club as well. So far this season, they're performing well though Lampard still has more work to do in building the squad.

Hey man:) It is pretty cool to see people in the Hive community speaking for football. The real game. :)

I am a Real Madrid supporter and I believe that this year we can make it again. First the team should win vs Borussia Mönchengladbach which I am pretty sure that will happen. After this Zidane should get new players because Benzema is very tired for this. If we trade Mbappe for Hazard should be the best deal ever.. By the way Bayern Munich looks like a really good team now.. with the signing of Sane they are a really good opponent.

I love speaking of football because it's my favourite game. Speaking of Real Madrid, it's my favourite club in the La Liga. My love for the club was because Christiano Ronaldo. Winning Borussia Mönchengladbach might not be that simple or easy but I do hope they win. As for Hazard, I don't fancy his style of play; he hangs the ball too much without striking

I totally agree. Both Liverpool and Real Madrid are placed in a competitive team. Glad Liverpool pulled that one the other day to advance to the knockout stage.

As for Real Madrid, they're in real serious trouble. The head-to-head points and the current table point standings are a mess for them. I actually made a detailed post about it. Not plugging for support but feel free to check it out!

For best and for worst, I'm always FC Barcelona :)

Yeah! RMD are in a tight position but they can turn it around if they beat the German side in the last of the group stage.

Barcelona is a great team although they have lost their quality a great deal. To be frank, no team is scared of them anymore.

Agree with your latter statement. Both teams RMD and FCB aren't the clubs they are used to be. Still in the transition stage.

By the way, have you heard about Rabona? It's a football managerial game on top of Hive Blockchain.

Because of Head-to-Head matches the only option for them to advance is to win. A draw or loss will eliminate them.

RMD will win, I believe so but they'll have to put up a fight. I don't want to see them in the Europa
