Chelsea hosted Fulham in the their League game with their ambitions quite different. Chelsea hoped to break into the top 4 with a win while Fulham hoped to close the gap in their bid to beat the relegation drop.
Fulham would feel aggrieved to have gotten nothing out of this game but they have Karl Havertz to name for that. He was clinical, decisive and devastating for the game.
It took Chelsea just 10 minutes to score their first goal of the game through Havertz. He was played through and struck his effort at goal. The ball went in with the touch from the goalkeeper. Chelsea deserved the lead for their early dominance, 1-0.
Havertz scored another goal in the 16th minute but he was correctly ruled for an offside. Fulham had chances of their own through Reid but the notable one was in the 22nd minute when Lookman was played through at the edge of the box. He want for power and he struck his shot cleanly but Mendy was there to block the shot with his hand.
In the 38th minute, Timo Werner played a cut-back pass for Ziyech inside the box but he was unable to beat the goalkeeper from close range. Warner also had his tamed shot saved in the 40th minute. He lacked support though but his shot was not a threat in anyway to the goalkeeper.
Just before half time whistle went, Ola Aina produced a brilliant shot at the edge of the box. Mendy was so instinctive because the ball deflected and he still managed to stop the ball with his sharp reflex. He kept Chelsea from going into the break level.
Chelsea started the second half as they did the first and it was the same man at the center of it; Havertz. Timo Werner found him inside the box after he expertly beat the offside trap in the 49th minute. She wasted no time in slotting the ball into the back of the net to make it 2 goals for him and 2 for Chelsea.
Mason Mount had a shot on goal in the 62nd minute but for the timely intervention of Tosin Adarabioyo who blocked it off for a corner kick. The ball might have threatened the goalkeeper.
The game ended 2-0 and Chelsea moved into 4th place, taking 6 points from West Ham United with only 4 more games to go.
