Engaging Sport as a Tool to Sustaining peace in the Land

Hi everyone.

I shade tears as Nigeria is currently going through a state of turmoil. Some days ago, some sets of well meaning nationalist began a peaceful demonstration for the end of SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad). I quite loved it when the aim was to end SARS operations in the Nation not nullifying the realities of the damages and end to human existence they have caused but i hated it with all passion when some hoodlums high jacked the peaceful demonstration and began to destroy government facilities meant for public services.

Just yesterday, the Lagos State government declare a curfew from 4:00pm just in a bit to reduce or push protesters filling the streets of Lagos in so there could be access through the major route in Lagos but quite unfortunately, this protesters refused to obey government orders which resulted to many killings.

A lot is really playing in my heart now. I am extremely bittered by all this things happening in the nation.

If you ask me i would say that the major reason all this things are happening is partly because the government had neglected the sporting sector of the nation and began paying attention to other things. Now i will like to explain myself more clearly here.

There are a few things sport bridges over and this things cannot be ignored as any nation presses on to development and transformation and this things are peaceful co-existence, unity and harmony and tranquility but when this things are not considered secondary, advancement become limited. A nation does not only grow economically to become a developed nation but with infrastructures, standard education and technologies a nation can be termed as a developed nation.

In these initiatives, sport is a lever for integration or social reintegration in developing countries or in conflict-affected areas.

There are actually millions more young people participating in sports, and not just to bring home medals — but to bring peace. Soccer matches are used between two enemy sides to help rebuild relationships as the say always goes, "can two walk together except the agree?" No, it is impossible. These fundamental principles can transfer into the social lives of the athletes in a way that has a positive impact on development in their region.

Peace is a core thing when we are talking about national development how can that happen where there is war... Please i can't complete this now my heart is heavy and i can't control the tears over the lives that has fallen already.
