Saludos, este fin de semana disfrutaba de fotografiar las matas parchita, plátanos y de mango que están en mi jardín. De repente veo esta especie de capullo o nido pegado al tronco de la mata de mango.
Greetings, this weekend I was enjoying photographing the parchita, banana and mango trees in my garden. Suddenly I see this kind of cocoon or nest attached to the trunk of the mango bush.
Tengo que señalar que me dan terror las arañas, y lo primero que pensé fue eso: es un nido de arañas y me puse fría, ja, ja, ja.
Sin embargo me llené de valentía y con una rama toqué el capullo, noté que tenia una abertura así que pensé que si había algo allí saldría al tocarlo. No salió nada "gracias a Dios".
Luego llame a mi padrastro y le mostré el capullo y me dijo que probablemente era de una mariposa grande o polilla.
Busqué unas pinzas y trate de despegar el capullo con mucho cuidado de manera que no se dañara. Esto lo hice porque ya me había asegurado de que estaba vacío "abandonado". Así que no iba a dañar a ningún ser vivo.
I have to point out that I am terrified of spiders, and the first thing I thought was that: it's a spider's nest and I got cold, ha, ha, ha, ha.
However I got brave and with a branch I touched the cocoon, I noticed that it had an opening so I thought that if there was something there it would come out when I touched it. Nothing came out "thank God".
I then called my stepfather and showed him the cocoon and he said it was probably from a large butterfly or moth.
I got some tweezers and tried to peel the cocoon off very carefully so that it would not be damaged. This I did because I had already made sure it was empty "abandoned". So I was not going to harm any living thing.

Parece hecho de pelos, es bastante resistente. Me pregunto que animal habitó este capullo.
Caminando por el jardín mi padrastro me mostró mas de estos capullos en la mata de aguacates, igual que mi capullo estos estaban vacíos.

Me pareció tan interesante la manera en que están hechos estas bolsitas o capullos, como cabellos o pelos. Parecen frágiles, pero realmente son bastante resistentes. No me podía quedar con la intriga así que busqué la mejor ayuda aquí en Hive.

Y el ganador es... Megalopyge lanata o Gusano del Mango. Le gustan las plantas cítricas, entre ellas el mango. Su fase de gusano es peligrosa pues sus pelos son urticantes y luego de su metamorfosis deja de ser toxica. Esta Polilla es nocturna.
I found it so interesting the way these little bags or cocoons are made, like hair or fur. They look fragile, but they are actually quite sturdy. I couldn't stay with the intrigue so I looked for the best help here at Hive.

And the winner is. Megalopyge lanata or Mango worm. It likes citrus plants, including mango. Its worm stage is dangerous because its hairs are stinging and after its metamorphosis it is no longer toxic. This moth is nocturnal.

No pican, sus pelos tienen toxinas que causan reacciones alérgicas al entrar en contacto con nuestra piel.
Las toxinas con la que impregnan sus pelos o pubescencia las obtienen de la planta de la que se alimentan.
La Megalopyge lanata es de cuidado, no se debe manipular. Otras orugas tienen pelos pero son inofensivas, los tienen para confundir a sus depredadores.
