Froghopper | Cercopis Vulnerata ... some Macro Photos

During lockdown we have been allowed to do sports and go for walks. I have taken these photos on a morning walk in May this year.

Cercopis Vulnerata
Froghopper - Cercopis Vulnerata

The Cercopis vulnerata or Froghopper belongs to the family of Cercopidae. You might know this little cicada as black-and-red froghopper or red-and-black froghopper. In German it is called "Blutzikade" what means "blood cicada" in English.

I have cropped each of the original images to show the Froghopper larger. If you click on the link below the images a new tab or window should open, showing the photo in a larger size.

On this morning I have seen three of these nice looking little guys in the grass beside my path, but I have taken close-up photos of only two of them, because the third one has been hidden too deep in the grass, as you can see in the last image.

I don't know if the droplet behind the Froghopper is a dew drop or something else 😉

Still sleeping and I can see another dew drop behind ;)

As most times when I go for a walk it was quite early in the morning, so I had to use the magical power of Lightroom to make the photos a little bit brighter than it actually was 😉 and I hope they are not still too dark.

This kind of Froghoppers lives in most of Europe, but during my research I have found similar looking but different called relatives of them, like the Cercopis sanguinolenta which can also be found in the near east.

This is the more hidden Froghopper and I didn't want to disturb it, so I took only this photo where you can see it between the plants.

Well, that was all for today. I think tomorrow evening I'll post my hunting trophies for the final of the #AlphabetHunt challenge in the Feel Good Community and hope that I can complete my XYZ words till then 😉

Approach them very very slowly lol. Otherwise they will teleport away. I found a candystriper one a while ago P6225400Leafhopper.jpg

Oh wow, this one looks cool 😃

That's why I mostly walk in the mornings. They still sleep and I could even touch most insects, but I don't, of course 🙂

I love the red color! Reminds me of a bug I found on wildplants just recently. Cool pics !

Pictures perfect! - as always! 🙂

The red and black colours make the insect stand out. Now I know what a froghopper is. 🙂

Do they make a horrible racket? I had to live and work in the southern United States once upon a long long time ago, and the cicada's there were the most noisy critters I have ever heard, worse than crickets.

They only belong to the cicada family - I haven't heard any sound from them 😉
Here we only have noisy crickets as far as I know ☺️

The cicadas in southern America, can drown out the sound of everything else they are so noisy.

Oh yes, I know these sounds from movies and TV shows. I think after a while you would get used of it and don't hear it anymore 😉

I don't think so, because two years ago I have decided to buy a plastic tree 😉 - it looks like a real tree even if you get close to it, but no tree has to die for being decorated and then thrown away a few days later 😁

Some great photos of the Froghoppers here Hannes!
Early morning id the best time to get insects before they are ready for the day.

The wind blew a leaf past my head this morning, but there was no wind and the leaf turned to the left to go and sit on a tree log.
So, it wasn't a leaf and I will post soon about this strange thing.

Blessings!

Good morning and thank you very much Zac 😀

I am not much online these days - no time at work and some family business going on, but I will try to at least do my votes and replies and visit the important posts 😉

Wish you a wonderful weekend 🌞

Good late evening Hannes,

As you can see we are also a bit snowed under with work, but I did manage to get a post in and help Hivebuzz with the new papilloncharity badge.
Thank you for your reply and hope that you can relax a bit this weekend!

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

it's always good when you have enough work - I mean work you like to do, and you like your work ... I don't need to say more, do I? 🤣

Yes, that badge looks great 😃

It's raining today, but we have a long weekend because Monday is a holiday here 😁 The weather forecast says from this afternoon on the weekend will get quite nice, but she also said this morning that it is dry outside while I was driving in pouring rain about a kilometer awayfrom the radio station where she was sitting 😂 lol

Hope you have a nice weekend too, Zac 😃

Good evening my friend and yiou are already asleep!

We had a very full day and the first that I could get in here was around 9pm.
Then I had to hurry to do my post, download the camera and now for the replies.

Yes indded, you know that I love my work even though it's not easy. But I wouldn't want an easy job, as I get bored very quickly hahaha.

Yeah, I am sure that all of the weather persons shout start taking medicine for hallucinating lol. How can she say it's dry when it's raining?

That white seamist is at work here again, as it's the second day that we don't see the mountains. One thing that I have learned the hard way, is to get down to the ocean for sunsets when the seamist is active. You will see in my post today why!

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

my job would be too boring for you, although it is quite busy at the moment and sometimes I don't know what I should do first... ;)

Sometimes the rain clouds and rainy areas are very small here, so I have driven through dry places yesterday which were a few hundred meters wide and then it poured down again. Maybe her building was in a dry area 😁 lol

I have already seen your post and I love it a lot, although I wouldn't want to get such photos through a painful accident, at least not on purpose 😉

Good evening Hannes,

I think that you know that I am a free spirited person.
As soon as I feel a job's rope around my neck, then I bolt and run away like a wild horse lol.
The reason why I like my work at Papillon is that I have no boss (I am allergic to bosses lol) and I have freedom to design, plan and budget projects focused on helping others.

Yeah, maybe she has a bucket outside the door and if there's no water in the bucket then it means that there is no rain lol.

I went back to that hole and this is it!
065 2.JPG

I should have said that I stepped into a hole and fell over backward, as I was walking backwards with my camera aimed at the sky.
There was no way that I could have seen that hole!

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

I don't like bosses either, but that depends on the boss and his or her behaviour 😉

Well, looking at these stones and the concrete wall you could have got hurt a lot more. Such accidents happen sometimes, I believe if they'd happen more often evolution might let grow an eye on the backside of your head ;)

camera aimed at the sky

That's exactly how I imagined it, but not that you were going backwards 😁

Good afternoon Hannes,

Once a boss tells me to do this, or do that, I freak Hannes.
I take pride in my work, but the more work that I deliver, the more that they want.
And they don't pay for it. Slave drivers 😉

Mainly my ego that got damaged my friend. Some drunk people on a balcony was watching me taking photos and when I fell, they all howled with laughter.
Yes it could have been serious, but luckily I learned in the army how to fall and so I am fine.

I think that I should apply to mother nature for a set of Chameleon eyes
The camera has a new dent in it, but it still works so all is well my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

I completely understand what you mean and why you hate bosses 😉

Oh well, that was embarrassing, even if they were not drunk.

Chameleon eyes would be great to have but people would look funny 😜

Hi Hannes,

We are on the same page regarding bosses 😁

People are people my friend and you know what I will say!

I hope that you are not now dreaming about the unmentionable persons with chameleon eyes, as you will only see this in the morning lol.

Cheers and thanks!

No, I have no idea what I have dreamed, but maybe about a wonderful sunrise and the reflection of a little tree in a crystal clear mountain lake 😀

I had commented and reblogged this pretty little froghopper when the HF was going on but it seems lost in the confusion.
