As I wrote in previous posts, autumn was relatively busy at the meeting with butterflies. These photos were taken on different days, most of October 4, and the last two on October 11, 2020.

I was very lucky to find a place near my house that butterflies really liked. And these days, especially if they are warm and sunny, there with 100 percent probability, at least one butterfly has always been present.

This place is under the crown of a plum tree, which is mostly illuminated by the sun during the autumn day. Since there were a lot of fallen plums under the tree, I got the impression that it was the plums or the smell they gave off that attracted butterflies. Although I may be wrong, because I do not remember seeing them sitting on the plums.

One person told me that this species of butterfly is unusual for such an autumn time. And its appearance may be associated with certain changes in the climate of Ukraine. Maybe it is. We'll find out soon.

It is not untypical for this butterfly to still fly in autumn. The Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) can fly until the first frost. However, it then looks for a sheltered place to hibernate. With a little luck you will meet this butterfly again in March on warm sunny days.

We have a rather warm autumn this year. And at that time there were no frosts. But during this week, at night there were frosts and butterflies disappeared from that place.

Recently I made a publication where I showed a butterfly. I searched for information in Google and found that it was a Vanessa de los Cardos. The information was wrong. I see this one that you share with us and it is definitely different. Thank you for your contribution. Greetings from Venezuela.

Try the Google Lens program. It does not work perfectly, but sometimes helps in the identification of insects. Thanks for the comment. Greetings from Ukraine.
