This Small Short-tailed Grasshopper is Missing a Leg - Gomphocerinae [EN] // A Este Pequeño Chapulín de Antenas Cortas le Falta una Pata - Gomphocerinae [ES]

A couple of weeks ago it has been raining daily in my town, and at night the sound of the cicadas and crickets makes me feel as if I were in the countryside, the truth is that it makes me long for those nights when we used to stay around a campfire telling stories until we fell asleep. Almost every day in the morning it is common to see small grasshoppers and cicadas warming themselves with the morning sun, in case it doesn't rain, however, this small grasshopper with short legs caught my attention because I noticed that it was missing one of its legs.

This little guy would be a little less than 2 centimeters long, and I was surprised how close I could be to him, while he remained motionless, I imagine he was resting, because for these grasshoppers to have only one leg, makes life more difficult for them, come on that for anyone is difficult. I must have taken about 30 pictures, the breeze did not allow me to take clear shots.

One of the things that catches my attention a lot of these little ones were their huge eyes, you can say that 50% of their head are eyes hahaha, that while it is true that these insects have big eyes, I had not seen them with such big eyes.

I imagine that this little fellow will not be able to stridulate to be noticed, as this is a sound they make by rubbing both hind legs against their body, as well as this must also influence their survival and reproduction.

This little guy is a short antennae grasshopper of the family Gomphocerinae, however I have not managed to find the exact name of the species, this is one of the big problems we have insect lovers, we do not always find the information we need of the specimens we find.

I actually found a couple of pictures of this same grasshopper, and they all tell me about the family Gomphocerinae, but not the exact species, so if you know what species this little guy is I would appreciate your comments.

Another thing I loved about this little guy is how his antennas look, they seem to be articulated, as if they were like the old car antennas hahaha.

After about 30 minutes of resting on this leaf, he just jumped, I was lucky enough to see that moment, and the truth is that he did it in a very fast way, so even though he has only one leg, I think he can still defend himself well.
