More than a month ago I shared with you the photographs of a small silver spider or tiger spider that was in a corner of my garden. During this time I was in absolute rest, if I managed to go out to the garden I would not go near where she is, which by the way I swore she was no longer there. Until today, walking around that area while taking a sunbath I realized that she is still in the same place and has grown about 10 times the size I saw her last time, she is really huge.

I don't like to scare them away because although they usually weave really wide webs, and it is said that they can lay up to 400 eggs, they are really good at killing off some of the garden pests, I had seen them eating some flies, small cicadas and even some smaller spiders, but I hadn't seen them in the first place so big and much less devouring what was apparently a grasshopper, it really is a spectacle, and they are really fast at making these large insects disappear.

I can say that it devoured its prey in a matter of about 50 minutes, something that impressed me because I didn't think it was that fast. One of the things I love about this spider is its color, the spots on its body that are what make it receive the name of the tiger spider.

Only by eating or weaving its cloth around its victims is the only way to see their separate sets of legs, otherwise, you will always see them with their legs together. This female is at least 6 centimeters long, the biggest I have seen, and the one that has lasted the longest in my garden.

I just hope it doesn't fill my garden with 400 more spiders, it would be something worthy of a horror movie hahaha.

Hace más de un mes les compartí las fotografías de una pequeña araña plateada o araña tigre que estaba en un rincón de mi jardín, durante este tiempo que estuve de reposo absoluto si lograba salir al jardín no me acercaba a donde se encuentra ella, que de paso yo juraba que ya no se encontraba allí. Hasta que hoy caminando por esa zona mientras tomaba un baño de sol me di cuenta de que aún está en el mismo sitio y que ha crecido unas 10 veces del tamaño que la vi la última vez, está realmente inmensa.

No me gusta ahuyentarlas pues aunque suelen tejer unas telarañas realmente amplias, y se dice que pueden poner hasta 400 huevos, son realmente buenas acabando con algunas de las plagas del jardín, la había visto comiéndose algunas moscas, pequeñas chicharras e incluso algunas arañas de menor tamaño, pero no las había visto en primera tan grandes y mucho menos devorando lo que al parecer era un saltamontes, es realmente un espectáculo, y son verdaderamente veloces para desaparecer estos insectos de gran tamaño.

Puedo decir que se devoró a su presa en cuestión de unos 50 minutos, algo que me dejo impresionada, pues no pensé que fuera tan rápida. Una de las cosas que me encanta de esta araña es su color, las manchas de su cuerpo que son las que le hacen recibir el nombre de araña tigre.

Solo comiendo o tejiendo su tela alrededor de sus víctimas es la única manera de ver sus juegos de patas separadas, pues de lo contrario siempre las veras con sus patas juntas. Esta hembra mide al menos unos 6 centímetros, es la más grande que he visto y la que más tiempo ha durado en mi jardín.

Solo espero que no me llene el jardín de 400 arañas más, sería algo digno de una película de terror jajajaja.
