Workers and guardians

Ants are quite fascinating creatures. The team work and organization is amazing.

I was walking around a field and I saw lots of those little ant holes around. Hundreds of insects walking around collecting food. I sat down next to one with my camera and started to watch them.

Without disturbing and stressing them I was shooting. Those big warriors were amazing! Huge, shiny heads with massive jaws. They were parading around like bosses taking turns to get out from the nest.
I imagine they were all doing their rounds.

And then there were two types of the smaller ones. Or rather medium and very small ones.

The medium ones were the food collectors. Walking in and out constantly and following the tracks visible only to them.

I am not sure what is the role of those super tiny ones. I suppose they do belong to the same family. I guess other specie would be attacked.
Cleaners maybe? There was less of them too.

Who else is coming?

There there was some more with the long seeds.

Struggling a bit, but this one too disappeared in the nest.

I could sit and just observe them. They all had their own role: the large bodyguard's were in and out from the nest checking almost every small ant that would come in. The small ones were dragging all kinds of seeds back to the nest.

Them this ambitious one showed up..
I waited a bit to see if she manages with this seed too.
Took her a while, but yep, she did it :)

The organisation of ants is a huge resources to tap from when division of labour is being considered by human. Highly efficient group of individuals.

Photographing ants, it must require high patience. I know you have a lot of patience when photographing the black ant. And I really like looking at photos of ants. Best regards. 🙏

Thanks! They are easier to photograph than butterflies :p
And always fun to observe.

Hahaha… ants are hard to photograph, but easier than photographing butterflies. But if the butterfly is limp, it may be easier to photograph than an ant that is still agile. 😄
Actually, all jobs definitely require a lot of patience.

Regards.
