First meeting with ground bees
This was unexpected!
So unexpected, that I didn't have my camera with me when I saw them. I had to run back to the car to get it and start shooting.
I found Ground Bees! At least that's what Uncle Google tells me. And while searching it also showed me lots of "How to get rid of Ground Bees?" suggestions. Why would anyone want to get rid of them? First of all they are bees! Come on...
Secondly they are just so cute :)
There was about 10 or 15 of those little holes in a small, maybe 0.5 square metre area. Some had a tiny little rock on top to cover the hole, like a door. When the bees were arriving they were lifting in, sneaking in and the rock was going back to place again.
First they check if it is safe...
Slide the door...
And off she goes!
I read that they live alone in those holes. But while I was sitting there watching them I would swear there is multiple bees in each home. They were flying off and coming back quite fast.
I managed to catch two of them landing covered in pollen :)
Slide in..
Close the gates!
Here is a little gif of another home.
I wish I made a quick video
I was sitting about 50 cm from them and they were watching me too. If I got the camera a bit too close they would stay in and just look. I can to keep my distance to let them work.
Just look at those big eyes :D

.You have excellent shots, they didn't bother you and you didn't bother them so little, they say they don't bite you if you don't bother them and I see it's true, you achieved what you wanted in those moments, man and nature :)
Bees are not bad and will not attack if not threatened. Just have to be calm around them and don't piss them off :))
A cool series of shots, very nice, i am familiar with the mud dobber wasp, and a couple other types that live in the mud, but first time seeing ground bees.
There is a small little clay ball, pea size maybe, hanging on one of my plants. It is open and empty inside. I wonder if it would be one of the wasps doing it.
Aww cute, is it spring over there? The miner bees come out early spring over here.
Late summer :) But the season is really long here with mild winters.
Great shots @ewkaw. I really like bees, they are very sweet creatures. I think that I saw ground bees back in Poland when I was a kid.
Really great found.
I never saw them there and I grew up in the countryside.

Oh nice! Thank you :)
You are welcome! :)
Interesting, I never noticed the bees thoroughly like this. You have done a pretty good job capturing these pictures... I love them...
Thanks very much :)
Amazing View 😮
You are very lucky! I've never seen a bee living in the ground before. This is quite interesting.
This was my first! I didn't even know they live there :)
Hello @ewkaw, excellent sequence of photos, very ingenious.
Hola @ewkaw, excelente secuencia de fotos, muy ingeniosa.
Thank you :)
Such fun! I have a few that make nests in my succulents from time to time
Do you get rid of them? I really don't know why people would. They don't do any harm.
I would actually like to get one of those little homes for solitary bees and hang on the balcony, but I don't think neighbors would like that :p
No and I enjoy seeing them flying inside the little holes they dig. I try not to water them
