Tired Pollinator

Hi fellow Hiveians,

The other day we had a nice surprise when we went to visit the lake house: a bee that was exhausted from pollinating things all day!

Thankless Job

The little pollinators have a thankless job to a lot of people. They work tirelessly to help keep our plants pollinated and reproducing! When we got to the lake house to do some work, our son immediately noticed this tuckered out bee when he went to grab his shovel! He was nervous, thinking it would sting him but when I moved in closer and touched the shovel, the poor thing didn't move a millimeter! I knew he was exhausted. I've seen it before and unfortunately I didn't have any honey or something sweet with us but I did try to do something to help the little thing.

I was telling him how important the bees are for our plants, the trees and our food while we were working on getting this little guy to a better spot. He was definitely interested and appreciated that I didn't squish the little thing, that's for sure! I was trying to find something to slowly take the bee off the shovel and closest thing I could find was this twig and clump of pine needles. It did the trick, the bee seemed to understand that I wasn't there to hurt him but I did need to move him. I coaxed him off the shovel onto the pine needles and he didn't make a fuss, he slowly walked.

I didn't want to leave him on the ground, the first time I tried that on the pine needles the twig it was attached to got blown around in the wind so he got jostled around a bit, I felt bad lol. We moved him onto the pine cone here!

We were able to coax it onto a better spot on the pine cone so it wouldn't fall off or roll over and it stayed there, content. We placed some water nearby and tried to shelter it a little bit with some stuff around it, thankfully it seemed to do okay. We were going to stop by and check on it in a few days to see how it fared, was it there and dead or was it gone and potentially alive flying around pollinating more? We certainly hope it will live and pollinate another day!

It was a fun little teaching moment for the little man and I always appreciate those!

Nice of you to show the little fella what compassion looks like, even for just a little bee.

You know, I was going to suggest CPR but that's wouldn't have worked...You would have had to use BPR. Get it? Lol.

Lol don't need to be a dad to make a sad joke man!

He was definitely thinking of ways we could try to resuscitate the little thing lol he brought over the cap of water for it, always thinking of helping others out so that was nice. He cries if we accidentally kill a fish when we are fishing, it tugs on your heart strings lol

You need to learn the ancient bee resuscitation dance, guaranteed to make any bee get up and fly away...

Yay bees, we're a bee sanctuary, bees need to be helped and saved if in trouble sugar water etc, over here there's an initative to not mow your lawn for a month, and we'd love to do this, but we'd lose control, therefore we'll keep some bits long as we already have many bee plants, loving the updates @cmplxty

That’s great, I’m trying to set up our little garden area and others to be a good place for bees. I don’t have good luck with flowers but I’m trying to get ones they like lol. Sugar water is a great choice for them, I wish I had some for this worker. We came back and it was gone, not sure if it flew away or got eaten but hopeful at least it flew away lol
