Cada vez los veos más grande, se trata de otro escarabajo pelotero, lo encontré en el camino hacia la montaña y una vez más creí hallarlo muerto, estaba inmóvil e indefenso ¿Saben quiénes no lo dejaban pasar?

Every time I see them bigger, it is another dung beetle, I found it on the way to the mountain and once again I thought I found it dead, it was motionless and defenseless.

Pues nada más y nada menos que una hormigas negras. Fue curioso el comportamiento del escarabajo pelotero. Tan grande y tan miedoso je,je,je. Definitivamente ya no sé como calificar la acción de las hormigas quienes siempre trabajan en equipo para lograr su objetivo ¿Pretendían comerse vivo al escarabajo?

Sí, las hormigas estaban allí para devorar al gigante de seis patas. Estaba tan intimidado el pobre que le tocó hacerse el muerto ¿Acaso es un comportamiento típico del escarabajo? Es decir, ¿se paraliza o son las hormigas quienes neutralizan a los insectos sin importarles su tamaño?

Yes, the ants were there to devour the six-legged giant. He was so intimidated by the poor guy that he had to play dead. Is that typical beetle behavior? I mean, does it paralyze itself or do ants neutralize the insects regardless of their size?

El escarabajo estaba bañado con el rocío de la mañana. Me dio lástima verlo tan indefenso, lo levanté y le quité de encima a las hormigas. Caminé con el un rato y a partir de allí comenzó a reaccionar, no estaba muerto, solo acorralado. Lo llevé hasta un lugar más seguro, al menos eso creo.

The beetle was bathed in the morning dew. I was sorry to see him so helpless, so I picked him up and got rid of the ants. I walked around and from there he started to react, he wasn't dead, just cornered. I took him to a safer place, at least I think so.
