Chicharra, así conocemos en Venezuela a este insecto aunque en otros países sé que los llaman de otra manera.

Esta chicharra se encuentra en su fase adulta es por ello que logré visualizarla sobre la rama del arbusto. Un ligero movimiento hizo que lograra captarla.

This cicada is in its adult stage that is why I managed to visualize it on the branch of the bush. A slight movement made me manage to capture it.

Al tomarla en mis manos miré la parte de su abdomen. No sé identificar si es hembra o macho simplemente quise observar su morfología.

As I took her in my hands, I looked at the part of her abdomen I don't know if it's male or female, I just wanted to observe her morphology.

Estaba muy silenciosa, eso me hizo pensar que se trataba de una hembra. Los machos, emiten un sonido desde su abdomen para atraer a las hembras. Debido al esfuerzo que realizan, ese mismo sonido hace que la chicharra macho muera más temprano que las hembras.

She was very quiet, which made me think it was a female. Males, they make a sound from their abdomen to attract females. Because of the effort they make, that same sound causes the male cicada to die earlier than the females.

Las chicharras viven años debajo de la tierra, siendo ninfas o huevecillos quedan enterradas para alimentarse de la savia producida por las raíces de los árboles. Siendo adultas es cuando salen, cambian sus conchas y comienzan ciclo de apareamiento.

The cicadas live for years under the ground, being nymphs or eggs that are buried to feed on the sap produced by the roots of the trees. When they become adults, they change their shells and begin a mating cycle.

La zona donde la encontré había sido devastada por el fuego, estaba indefensa y no lograba volar. Su color era verde muy oscuro, apenas se lograba detallar las partes de su cuerpo.

The area where I found her had been devastated by fire, she was helpless and unable to fly. Her color was a very dark green, barely able to detail her body parts.

No son insectos con el mayor número de especies pero, se dice que de ellas existe alrededor de 1000.

They are not insects with the largest number of species but, it is said that around 1000 of them exist.

Tomarla entre mis manos fue maravilloso, recordé que desde niña vivía cazando las chicharras. El sonido siempre me llevaba hasta algún tronco de árbol para treparme, agarrarla, cortarle sus alas y contemplarla por largo rato.

Taking it in my hands was wonderful, I remembered that since I was a child I lived hunting the cicadas. The sound always led me to some tree trunk to climb up, grab it, cut its wings and contemplate it for a long time.

Había estado detrás de este insecto desde hace tiempo y esta es la primera vez que lo encuentro aquí en la montaña por eso no pude resistir la tentación de agarrarla.

I had been after this insect for a long time and this is the first time I find it here on the mountain so I could not resist the temptation to grab it.
