Teletuesday on a Wednesday

Here's a quick and grungy #teletuesday by @steevc on a Wednesday. I got way too busy yesterday and couldn't finish mixing the audio and editing the video. But here it is. I just played whatever came to mind to a 6/8 beat at 90 bpm. Later I added the post rock drum kit in Superior Drummer with a few basic drum measures to match the different moods of the improvisation. The tricky thing about this improvisation was that I just played the guitar acoustically into my zoom h6 without any monitoring through an amp. Fortunately I was able to sculpt the tone enough in bias fx after the fact. For the next jam I might work out a way to record an amp and a clean channel for easier monitoring of the situation.

Thanks for listening :-)

I always expect something creative from you. I take it you are capturing the audio separately from the video. How do you sync them up?

I captured the direct signal from the guitar via my zoom h6 that's directly connected to the guitar. Plus I played to a metronome so the first note is easy to line up to the correct timing in my daw. Then I slice up the direct signal wav file in cakewalk and apply different effects to each slice. I then add in the drum midi after that. The camera audio is there just to line up the video with the finished mix. I mute the camera/video audio when I export the video in after effects leaving only the finished audio mix with the video playing.

Well it seems to work pretty well. I need to find something better for my videos that works on Linux. I get sync issues, but they are just fun things. I have decent audio software (Ardour) for multi-tracking. Got a little project to do with a friend soon.

Sometimes when the audio is bad on the camera I just have to visually line it up via timecodes.

Nice tele and nice quick and grunty. BTW How do you change effects mid song? I've done this in some of my posts by doubling the tracks in Reaper, changing the bias-fx setup on each track, then cutting out bits and pieces that aren't using that effect.... If that makes sense... It works but is strange playing that way. If there is a distorted part then clean you have to play it either all clean or all distorted.

I just slice up the clean direct signal wav in cakewalk and put each slice on a separate track with a different effect on it. You kind of have to use your imagination while playing since its just the acoustic sound on the electric while you record. Fortunately you can dial in pretty good sounds with bias vs craning your back tweaking knobs on an effects pedal for hours trying to get a good clean/distorted combo.
