Battle of the Forks - User Experience for HF20 vs. HF21

Hi Friends,

I’m sure I’m not the only one who woke up yesterday morning wondering what kind of mayham would be happening on the Steem blockchain as a result of the hard fork.

Now that we’ve officially made it to the other side of HF21...I thought it would be fun to compare the user experience between the last fork.

To start off, I think we are all curious to see how some of these changes will impact the Steem Community. Although there have been some hiccups and glitches… so far it seems that things have gone fairly smoothly with only major user interruptions for less than a day. In contrast to HF20, this is a pretty big improvement.

Questions/Thoughts on the New Changes

Here are a couple of the questions/thoughts/concerns that I have on the new harfork that will be interesting to see as things settle and normalize.

  • How will the new reward split impact things? Will some whales actually come back to curating vs. selling to a bid bot… or will that dynamic stay pretty similar?

  • What’s this about those who earn less than 20 steem earning less or getting less visibility? (more thoughts on that below)

  • How will the new downvote pool impact the culture of Steem? Will it lead to more or less fighting and bullying?

Back to the 20 steem thing… It was so casually mentioned in a @steemitblog post, but seems like it could be a big deal. Won’t that create an even bigger divide between minnows and dolphins? Seems kind of insulting to content creators that are a great part of the community – but don’t earn as much on their posts. We also already have a hard enough time keeping people engaged… and so this seems like it could discourage people even more. There’s no use in jumping to conclusions until more information comes out on this… maybe it won’t impact things much at all – but only time will tell!

HF20… A Forced Steem Vacation

Weren’t here for HF20? Here’s a little snapshot of how I felt last time. 😂

Hardfork 20 happened close to Halloween last year and my good friend @goldmatters joked that I should dress up as HF20 for Halloween. I can’t resist the opportunity for a good costume idea… so I went for it!

Was it kind of harsh?

Yes.

Was it funny as hell?

Well… I think so.

Here are a couple of images from my HF20 costume! You can check out the POST to see more.

Getting Better As We Go

At least at the time of writing this post… I’m so glad that this hardfork is not going to inspire another costume idea this year. Although, I did have to wait quite a while until I could post this due to the inability to upload photos, the interruption to my regular Steem routine was fairly minimal.

What do you guys think about some of the changes? I’d love to hear your thoughts on some of the questions I posed above!

XO, Lea

Well my experience so far was handing out a few downvotes to trending posts which were hugely satisfying even though I can't make a huge dent I was glad to see more users flagging reward pool rape. I do still see a big Mexican standoff, people haven't been bid botting as aggressively as yet and I've also received two downvotes which are more than I usually get in a month lol

May the rewards flow to good content, I can already see the hot and treading looking a lot more respectable

Have you happened upon an all encompassing, but easy to read explanation of all the changes?

I've always been more of a curator than a creator, so, in theory, this should benefit me ...

I always compare steemit to Facebook. I've never received a penny for commenting on posts on Facebook. I've cashed out twice from Steemit - so I'm very happy with steemit - regardless of whether it's a fork, a spoon or a chopstick.

Hello hello!

I'm super curious about the below/above $20 per post too.... I'm hoping it will mean that the biggest whales look for posts under 20 to upvote since they'll get more in curation so we end up with the rewards more spread out.... but what I think will happen is more people bidbot to get up to the $20 mark to keep more of their own rewards... and the DTubes and Steemhunts of the worlds might be more profitable now...

Be interesting to see how it all falls out.

That has been the oddest thing about that Stinc post. And no answers. Why would those who earn LESS than 20 get LESS? Im a Dolphin, earnt around 5 to 7, work hard, give to commmunity, run @naturalmedicine, write good content (yeah yeah subjective) and they say I willl get LESS? Hmm. I can only hope more people curate, but surely they will be looking for the posts more likely to get over 20?

"Forkocalypse" - hilarious! ;D
Apparently HF20 was kind of a "Fork Harder" compared to HF21. It seems Steem have learned their lesson with the experience of HF20.

Hf20- epic failure, but no need to fork again.
Hf21- less than 24 hours, Hf22 here we come!

I now think that there actually should be a HF21 costume. But you only wear the costume for like 5 minutes.

(Edited)

from a curation stand point. for the last year or so a been ruining a mini game here. my ide all along was not to relay on the post pay out, but on my curation my players. a have never been over 20$ my posts are from 0.50-2.0$. now a making the same but just the last few days my curation has gon up a lot. normal a get 1 SP a day or so now am at 1.6Sp so for me its exselent news but am struggling whit power it sems they have "adjusted" how much power you need to up vote comments. to a almost stupid level. am a bit worry over the comment section all over steemit. a think it going to remove a lot of spammers its a good thing. but on the posts under 20$but a think its going to remove normal users to. just on the facts they know the author cant up vote them even if he has 600SP or so. am not sure if they have lover the dust level but a was reading you need 1700SP to get over the dust level on a comment now. a see a lot of posts whit no comment now days.
but from a Steemt sand how do you make it fair for a whale and a plankton am not sure you can.
