The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 26, Post #8

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 26:31-35

Isaac was having a party with King Abimelech last week to celebrate a peace treaty, well it was a covenant in Hebrew. Today they wake up and he sends the king off in peace.

His servants come to tell him that they have found water. He names the well Shibah and the Tanakh tells us that the city where that is located is still called Beersheba, as a historical note.

Changing gears, the text turns to Esau who, at the age of forty, is marrying two different women and starting to make life hard on his brother. With that, we finish another chapter. Next week we start chapter 27 with Isaac as an old man, wanting to bless his son before he dies.

Today's reading

English

In the morning they rose early and exchanged oaths. And Isaac sent them on their way, and they departed from him in peace. That same day Isaac's servants came and told him about the well that they had dug and said to him, "We have found water." He called it Shibah; therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.
When Esau was forty years old, he took Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite to be his wife, and Basemath the daughter of Eton the Hittite, and they made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah.
