Genesis 24:24-28

Abraham's servant confirmed that this young lady was the one to be married to Isaac last week. So he asked her for the names of her parents, and if there would be room in her parent's house for his group to stay. She responds in today's reading.

She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor." She added, "We have plenty of both straw and fodder, and room to spend the night." The man bowed his head and worshiped YHVH and said, "Blessed be YHVH, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, YHVH has led me in the way to the house of my master's kinsmen." Then the young woman ran and told her mother's household about these things.

There is something that stands out in most English translations as well as other languages. The actual name of God has been replaced with something lesser. Today we are reading that a servant who is not even from the line of Abraham speaks the name of the Creator three times in the course of three verses.

Due to persecution during the inquisition, the most important name in the history of mankind was essentially eliminated from all writings except the Hebrew.
