The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 21, Post #9

avatar

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 21:30-34

We were watching a covenant, between and Ambimelech and Abraham last week. Abimelech asked why there were seven lambs set apart.

Now we read that these ewe lambs were a witness that Abraham had dug the well, the one which was in dispute.

They both swore to the deal and called that place Beersheba, which means Well of Seven. It is like an old time contract. When you hear the name, you think of the seven lambs that were part of the deal, how the well was named, who was involved and what it meant. Abraham spent time in the land of the "Pelishtim" which is where David would one day face off with Goliath.

Another chapter is complete!

The story continues next week in Chapter 22 - God tests Abraham...

Thank you for visiting! There is no video this week because the hard drive with my video editor went bad. Hebrew movie clips were suspended until chapter 22 - they did not include the treaty.
