Hyper what?

Harvested most of the lavender, a bit left for bumblebees to much on

In the past, I have complained a decent amount about the pain in my right hip and feeling very much like a hundred years old grandma. My condition didn’t seem to improve much recently even with taking it easy for a while. I finally saw a specialist and was diagnosed with hypermobility. What it basically means is that the aliens who created my sleeve thought it was a good idea to make me super flexible. So flexible all my joints can move past the range of what’s normal for all the regular humans. What else does it mean? I am screwed. Not really. I hope. I just have to take an extra good care of my joint health as I can easily injure myself. If only it was as easy as flossing, right?

Genetics suck sometimes. I have a few wonderful features of my grandmother such as her ears, ankles, snow white skin, intuition of a witch, and well, the hypermobile joints. I am sure she didn’t know about it either. That is the annoying part. People rarely know about their conditions, before there is a problem or signs of a problem. I spent about fifteen minutes at the doctor’s chair telling her my issues and five minutes in she already knew what was wrong with me just by looking at my silly joints. Wish someone would have told me of it before as I then would have possibly avoided more organic damage. Unfortunately, this is not how modern day medicine and diagnostics work mostly, not here anyway. Often times it is more about oh you got pain, here are the pills for the pain. No pain, no problem. Until one day.

What now? Now, as it turns out, I have to take a bunch of supplements such as glucosamine, vitamin D, and magnesium. This will hopefully help my bones and muscles to become stronger, and help with collagen production. I was banned from running! I am still not at peace with this one! At the same time just the other day after finishing my rebellious, against the doctor’s orders run and walking home I could feel my hip being on fire inflamed. Ok, ok! I will take it easy! Fuck! Physiotherapy here I come! Who wants to cycle instead? Cycling seems so boring and easy in comparison.

Anyways, this will not go away and I just have to accept it.

Wild flowers are still my favorite flowers. You know, the ones you can find at the meadows. Most of them are quite healthy herbs that can be used as a tea.

Here is my hypermobile thumbs up! Until next time!

I just saw skynyrd last summer for the first time of you can believe that.

So you are hyper flexible. I never thought I would hear how that is a bad thing when it is lack of flexibility that leads to degenerative injuries. There are a purple types of glucosamine including glucosamine sulphate and another one. Make sure you research a little to get the best option for your condition.

Running can turn to walking for you hopefully and keep you hyper mobile. :)

Wow, that's pretty cool! Wasn't that like their good-bye tour? Think they are not planning to play much live after. Watched a short documentary the other day about their crazy history. They have had wild lives.

Didn't know that at all. I just went to pharmacy and asked them for glucosamine and got two types one in form of tablets and one as a powder. Will have to look into it.

Yea I am walking around and stuff. Also, noticed that doing work in garden is getting quite difficult with all the kneeling and such, but yea, not like this will get any easier with time and aging, just kind of hit me.

OMG, my used-to best friend in primary school had his thumb like yours, I always wondered wtf is wrong with it when it goes like that – it's because of hypermobile joints! Mind blown.

Who wants to cycle instead? Cycling seems so boring and easy in comparison.

I do, but you probably guessed it, lol. I prefer cycling to running, just because it's a practical means of transportation in every day life, so I've done it more and therefore grown to like it more. I've done some running, but never consistently for a long periods. From experience I can say that it can be boring to cycle 10s of kilometers on a big highway, smaller ones have more variety and change, so they can feel easier on the mind (though constant up and downhill certainly isn't for the body!). I just realized that you live in Latvia where everything's flat, so I can understand if cycling there would be boring, but you can definitely make it hard – just cycle more and faster :P

I would imagine swimming being good form of exercise for hypermobile joints.

I remember as a kid I managed to lock my knee out of place and it was stuck and freaked me out, but somehow I managed to unlock it and get it back. I also managed to do something to my jaw while biting into an oatmeal cookie xD it still sometimes makes a cracking sound when I bite into things or open my mouth too widely lol. It didn't occur to me that I might have a pattern here with these things, but now it all makes sense.

Yea I guess cycling here would be pretty alright, around the lake or something. The issues might start if I were to move some place else, a city for example. Would be a lot harder to find place to cycle then, but who knows.

Would love to start swimming regularly again :)

Haha, first of all... Beautiful shots.
Second first of all:
I find running much more boring and painful(knees mostly) than cycling (not the one in gym, ofc). And in the last few years whenever I tried running I had to abandon it due to pain and suffering either hitting just after 30 mins or so... and then limping back home (even tho I always have a proper warm-up and stretch routines). Who knows what I have... :)

I would rather choose flexible than a stiff and tensed sleeve, every day! :)

Bad news and beautiful photos :) take care and appreciate your body, we have only one (for now) and we'll need it in the distant future too. Hope you find some substitute activity to running that you actually enjoy.

Cheers :)

Thank you @svemirac! :) Happy how vibrant in color the lavender ones turned out.

I guess I never was built for running and it just sucks, because while in the beginning it feels terrible after a while it becomes addicting and I love it. I guess somewhere down the line I managed to injure the hip and now it just keeps coming back with the pain as my frame can't take it much.

We have a saying in Latvian "Kas par daudz, tas par skādi!" it basically translates as what's too much, that's bad for you So overly flexible is a greater risk for injury. I could walk on perfectly straight pavement and still twist my ankle xD

Thank you for advice. I am trying to appreciate it, but I guess I am hitting the age that is slowly revealing issues. Someone better build that skynet or something soon where we can upload ourselves and live there forever ahaha!

Nice proverb - we have completely opposite and similar ones too - but I'll go with the opposite one :)
"Od viška glava ne boli", - "Your head won't hurt with a little bit of extra"...

Damn.... I probably have the same thing, but instead of hip (not sure if it is not injured since I have some issues after playing high intensity football/basketball), I've got the knee problems, twisting ankles every now and then(yes, on a really flat asphalt, leg just go nuts, and that thumb thing is no strange to me, tho other fingers are pretty much in place. :)

I'm still waiting for nano-bots (like replicants in SG-1 :) ) to fix people from the inside-out.

regarding ankles, usually good shoes help, I started wearing hiking ones wherever I go for walking, but keep avoiding ankle protections (since... that is double edge sword - it helps you, but your muscles and tendons do not improve). exercise is the key I guess :)

However, we can laugh in the face of danger, and drink some wine or black Riga, after all they have some healing capabilities! :)

I had never heard of hypermoility before. It doesnt sound too pleasant. That's too bad that you're banned from running :(
Hopefully the natural supplements help. It's nice when the natural stuff works and you dont have to take pharmaceutical medicine. Good luck!

Up until now I had not heard of it either, but now all my issues make sense and at least now I can be more aware what risks certain things have. I can't even sit cross legged anymore and have to correct the posture so that there is less pressure to the hip joint, I still struggle to remember that xD

Yea, hopefully they will. Only time will tell.

Thank you for stopping by @leaky20 :)

I think this means that you can squeeze yourself into really tight places. You never know when that skill will come in handy! Or Thumby :D

No :D It means that I will twist something while squeezing into tight places lol. That is more likely scenario at this point xD

Hi gorgeous, it is hard to hear you are "ill" but atleast you know what it is now. I'm a PE teacher and have lots of students with hypermobility. Know this comes in many forms and every person reacts different to this... But there's one thing I know for sure. Your not dead yet and there multiple ways to deal properly with this. I even have my hopes up you'll be running again one day. Good luck and all the best.

Hey and thank you for your hopeful message! :) Appreciate it! I am trying my best to stay positive about it and not to worry too much. Guess we all have to work with what we are given and not always we can certain things we would wish to be able to do. That said, I will not give up and do all I can to get better.

Thanks again!

:( I hope you will work on yourself and feel much better, as much as you can. It sucks a lot tho' :(

Shouldn't you also take calcium for bones?

Thank you so much for caring whacky! Will do for sure. It just feels like a setback at the moment, but I will figure this shit out one way or another.

Guess the doc was more concerned about the muscles and tissues at the moment, could be that I have magnesium deficiency and it is better not to take extra calcium as it will not be well absorbed while I take magnesium stuffs or something like that xD

I bike a lot (to and from uni/ work), and let me tell you that podcasts/ audiobooks helps a ton! otherwise i would have to focus on the beautiful scenic route, and who would like that?

But if cycling isn't for you, swimming is supposed to be really great for people with joint issues, as it doesn't stress any specific area of the body, as opposed to running. Good luck :)
