Let's Talk Mushrooms - Skin Disease

avatar

In this opportunity a medical publication of general interest (I hope), I want to talk about something that affects a huge number of people, is often not treated in time and it must be noted that the evolution is slow but constant, in general there is a tendency to give attention only when it is quite advanced, and do not usually seek the first appropriate guidance, but rather pay attention first to anyone, without medical knowledge who prescribes plants, only natural ointments, wash the affected area with the strangest things that may exist.

Skin diseases, considering that these are very frequent and can bring both physical and psychological limitations on the sufferer, should be viewed with the importance they deserve.

That is why I wanted to make this publication about:

Mushrooms.

It is quite common that when they go to a doctor's office the disease is already quite advanced and that the damage has usually been instaurating for months and seek to be cured in a matter of days.

The other HIGHLIGHTS in this type of disease affecting the skin is the fact that achieving an accurate diagnosis with only seeing, it becomes necessary to ask with respect to time of evolution, the symptomatology that accompanies the injury, even the realization of at least one complete hematology helps us doctors to reach the diagnosis and of course indicate treatment that generates the fastest solution of the situation.

To be able to differentiate many times between a dermatitis, an allergy and a fungal infection is usually something complex, since any infection either by fungus bacteria can cause a dermatitis, and at the same time a dermatitis predisposes to an infection by any microorganism, since the skin is a protective barrier and when it is inflamed this barrier is broken.

Image from my personal album

In the previous image the image in the centre and the image on the right are the product of an allergic reaction to a dairy product, the image on the left is a fungal infection.

A frequent mistake is to go to a pharmacy and ask the salesman to tell you something, when you see the reddened area the first thing they offer is a cream with steroids, and while these have a very good effect on skin with dermatitis is also true what is counterproductive when we are in the presence of an infection.

You may wonder:

Why?

The answer is that steroids diminish the defense action of our organism, that is to say, the white cells that are trying to fight pathogenic microorganisms, are limited or neutralized by steroids, then yes, the first days you will feel a relief because the skin will diminish the inflammation, but a few days later you will notice that the infectious process has been accentuated because there is no one to limit it.

Then the treatment for fungal infection should be individualized by patient, it all depends on when we see the patient. Because in an initial stage with a cream can solve the problem, but if it is also accompanied by a dermatitis, in addition to the antifungal steroid can attenuate the dermatitis, but always accompanied by treatment for fungi. If it is over-infected, that is to say, that in addition to the fungus that invaded the skin it lodges and does its own thing some bacteria should be accompanied by an antibiotic, even in some cases it is usually necessary the additional use of antibiotics.

As you can see, this is not a recipe for everyone, it is a fact that we are all different as humans, equally the area of the body affected, the age, the time when the patient is treated, the state of the immune system as well, all this must be considered to determine the treatment.

I bring some images from my personal album of patients whom I have been able to see and treat.

In this case the toe number 1 (or big toe, as it is colloquially called jeje) in the first image to the left, already has several months of evolution, was after an injury on the beach, was evolving slowly to reach these characteristics and somewhat late sought medical help, however, treatment should be indicated, of course. Already the second image is after a month of treatment, and much better, it is observed that the nail is even growing. The evolution of an infection is slow, of months, and in the same way its cure is slow, it is of patience.

In this other image you can see the hand of someone I have recently seen, had not sought more help than the one offered in the pharmacy, and they indicated steroids, that is the consequence. I discontinued the use of it, I indicated oral and topical antifungal treatment, additional antibiotic, because I already had purulent secretion.

I'm waiting to see how it evolves, very little time with treatment as to have great results, however **there's already improvement of symptoms. **

Another aspect I want to highlight is that **treatment should be for weeks generally. **It happens that after two weeks of treatment there is already an improvement, and the patient abandons the treatment. And after a few weeks the lesions appear again, this should not be, we must be consistent because that is what will ensure total elimination.

I say goodbye, hoping to leave in whoever reads me a good information.

Thank you for visiting my blog and reading my publication.
