A CAT and a fox

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is a community in Wales that has been experimenting with sustainable living for decades. Some of their techniques such as domestic solar power are mainstream now. We last visited about 20 years ago when we were looking for inspiration for our own build. We could not go full eco, but they show what can be done.

The fox refers to the avatar of @pennsif who I had arranged to meet there. We had a long chat about life and the state of Steem. We agree that it is not achieving its potential for various reasons. If it cannot grow then we can expect more good people to leave.

CAT has changed a bit since we last visited. They have an education centre with a grand lecture hall built with rammed earth. The gardens are cool too. I want to make a bug hotel like this.

I also want to build a garden shelter with a living roof.

We cannot all live like they do, but they show that a few small changes make a big difference to sustainability. If our buildings need less energy then we need less power stations.
