Dear friends

The first three commandments teach us the love of God, High Good and Last End of the created person and all the creatures of the universe, infinitely worthy in himself of being loved. The remaining seven are aimed at the good of the neighbor (and the personal good), which must be loved for the love of God, who is its Creator.

In the New Testament, the supreme precept of loving God and the second, similar to the first, of loving one's neighbor for God, summarized all the commandments of the Decalogue (Mathew 22: 36-40).

The 5th commandment expressly addresses children in their relationships with their parents. It also refers to kinship relationships with the other members of the family group. Finally, it extends to the duties of students regarding teachers, subordinates regarding their bosses, citizens regarding their homeland, etc. This commandment also implies and understands the duties of parents and of all who exercise authority over others.
