My Garden Journal for the Month of August

Hello everyone!

I have seen posts of some friends about @simplemike's garden journal challenge, and I would like to join the fun!

This plot of land where our garden is located is not ours. It is our subdivision's property. However they are not yet using it. Instead, tall grasses were growing that it became home to different preys and predators. At a time, we even saw a snake! So, fearing for our lives and our safety, we asked permission to our subdivision's property manager if we could cultivate the land into a vegetable garden while they are not using it yet. Happily, he agreed!

This garden doesn't have the best of soil, because clay soil and construction debris were used to fill the land. Thus, we labored so much in order to prepare it.

Everyday, we bury our kitchen scraps for it to beco
me a natural fertilizer. We also toiled in getting rock debris from the garden plots. But, with Jehovah God's blessings, our hard work pays off.

I lost count how many crops and herbs and trees are we growing in our garden, which we fondly call, "patch of paradise."

Please come with me as we take a look at our garden.

We surround our garden with cassava, which serves as a fence, as you can see in the left. And we have a dozen or so of moringa tree.

Last week we have started harvesting our cassava, and it gave as the longest cassava root I have ever seen in my life!

With our bountiful harvest, we have cooked cassava with coconut milk, cassava chips, aside from the normal boiled cassava.

We also have lady fingers in the house. As you can see, they are already old. So earlier this month we have already planted a new batch, and they are starting to grow now.

We also have eggplants. But they are quite old now so we need to plant a new set.

This was our harvest of snow cabbage.

And these are the only ones that are left now. In a week or two, we will also be planting new ones.

I am happy to see plenty of flowers in our Philippine lime.

And the flower of our American lemon is also a sight to see! This is its first fruit so I am excited for it!

Our papaya is ready to be picked in a few days. Yahooooo! Isn't it exciting? I'll probably gonna blog about this in a few days time.

We have different kinds of fruit trees, but they are still very young. We have jackfruit, sour sop, and avocado. Oh, how exciting if there would already be fruits!

With herbs we have oregano, sage, turmeric, and lemongrass. These are very essential to us since we use it in our everyday cooking or in our tea.

We also have bell peppers and chillis in pots in our front yard. These are some of the few bell peppers left, since we have been using them in our fish stew. With chillis, we practically use them in our soups and sauce, and basically in everything we see fit to use them!

Capsicum and green chilli peppers are still in the nursery, and will be transferred in the pots next week.

With that being said, I'm excited of how things will turn out for the next couple of weeks. But I am very hopeful for a good produce these coming months, hopefully, hopefully...
