African Violet day

avatar

I was repoting some violets today and I remembered that I still have some photos of this pink one I didn't show. This is my oldest one and the only one with multiple petals. It looks a bit like a carnation or a rose. The leaves on this one are all ruffled too so I know exactly which one is it even if it is not in bloom.

I admit I was neglecting them lately. Only one is in bloom, the rest looks quite miserable. I am not used to the fact, that I have to water them a bit more in summer. I keep them in rather small pots which prevents root rot in winter, but in summer the soil dries up pretty fast.

Some looks pretty miserable not only because of lack of water, but also because they were growing in the same pot for a few years now. The stem got really long as they were losing the older leaves. I slightly removed some of the old soil and put them the same pots, but a little bit deeper so that the stem is covered and will grow some roots. They look (almost) like new. Just need some water now :p

Summer will be over soon (I hope) and they will be fine. No casualties so far.
