The Peaches should be ripe soon
I was worried early this spring the Peaches would not make it. We got a cold snap after the flowers formed which usually does not bode well for the fruit to form.
Luckily some of them held up and continued to grow. Now we are a few weeks away from them being ready. Though I did come across some issues.
It does not appear all of them are suffering from this splitting. But many of them are, and I'm worries rot will take them over before harvest time.
Many of them are splitting on the stem where the tree connects to the fruit. I've never had this happen. And my research points to an over pruned tree. I bowl out my tree every late winter and have been doing that for years. Maybe I cut too much off this year.
The colors of the peaches are really showing up now, meaning they are close to harvest time.
This Peach tree has been hit or miss. About half the time the frosts kill the flowers before fruit can grow. And other times pests get into the crown of the tree, which I treat using "tanglefoot". And other times worms try to move into the fruits when they are just about ready. I'm using neem oil to try to keep them out of the fruit.
Hoping my Apple trees and Cherry trees will not have so many issues. Growing a Peach tree in North Georgia does not seem preferable.
Hey fellow #teamusa member. I miss peaches so much. I've been living in the tropics for over 10 years, and peaches have become an exotic luxury only eaten or rare short trips to the USA. I used to live near Palisades, Colorado, which grows a lot of peaches, but not quite like Georgia.
Ah well they dont grow so well where I live as well. So hope you find yourself some peaches.
Be safe in the tropics.
I'm beginning to understand your interest in bees now.
Yeah the Peach tree is a valuable source of food for the Bees. When they first emerge in late Feburary usually the Peach tree is flowering around that time.
it feels like to have an apple orchard like you, so you can eat apples every day.😅
Hah one day maybe I'll have an orchard. Just two for now.
Apple tree?
Yup got two of them
Good luck!
How do you use neem oil?
I have oil I mix with water and use a sprayer
Thank you so much!
I hope that you can get a good harvest from your Peach trees and apple trees @solominer
My country imports such fruits and they are quite expensive here.
I eat an apple or two a day :D
ah thanks alot, I can really smell them now. They should be ready soon I think.
So many fruits. Glad I learnt something today.
There sure are, glad you did. I've been learning alot about fruit trees by growing one.
